We had the good fortune of connecting with Lynelle Renella Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lynelle Renella, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was always to help children increase their skills and knowledge in different subject areas. My father was a teacher and that is what I went to college to pursue and I did. After teaching for a while I realized I was stressed out and wasn’t deeply impacting children as much as I wanted to, so I started my tutoring business. My business has allowed me to dig deeper and pull out a student’s full potential and increase their confidence in mastering certain subject areas.

What should our readers know about your business?
The thing that sets my business apart from others like it is, I teach the basics to my students but also life skills such as financial and emotional literacy. Before I start any session, I make sure my students are doing fine mentally and making sure they understand that I care for their well-being as well. I am most excited about reaching more students everyday from all different backgrounds and providing them with knowledge. When I first started my business, I thought everyone that I marketed to would say yes to me, this was not the case. It was a complete shock to me because I did not know anything about business and it was very hard to navigate at first. The challenges I have overcome is learning how to have a positive mindset, and being able to be self motivated every single day. I have learned a lot of lessons especially people skills and how to always be professional. I want the world to know that my brand will impact my students’ lives, their families and futures. My brand is about bridging the gap, so every child has access to the knowledge that will grow their minds and hearts forever.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would first take them to a cute area called Town-lake in the Cypress area, have brunch and find a few boutiques to go to. Then we would go to the Vintage Park in Tomball and have a quick lunch. Then the Willowbrook mall. The next few days we would explore City Centre and have lunch/dinner in a few restaurants there. Then we would go to the Zoo and the museums. My favorite is the Health and Science museum. At night I will take them to a few bars in mid-town Houston because every time I go I am always finding a new bar or lounge with good food. I love the thrill of not knowing what you would find in every corner of the city. I am always meeting new people in mid-town that have a unique style and culture. I would end the week with a little trip to Discovery Green and have a popsicle or ice cream in the park or plan a day picnic for the both of us.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I would love to thank most is the love of my life, my fiancé and future husband. When we first met I was a private homeschooling teacher and have always talked about starting my own business and helping more students. He has pushed me beyond belief and I never would have taken that step without him. The other person I would like to give credit to, is my dear friend who is in heaven now. She always would tell me never settle for less and go after my dreams. She made sure I was always learning and growing and she was the one who gave me the confidence to start my business and never look back, no matter how challenging it is.
