Meet Samira Armstrong | Esthetician & Dance Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samira Armstrong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samira, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One piece of conventional advice that I disagree with is to have a backup plan. I believe if you are extremely passionate about your craft, you shouldn’t have to worry. It’s almost as if you are setting yourself up to fail because you aren’t fully committed to your craft. As a young adult, I was always told to have a backup plan for many reasons. The pandemic is a great example, due to COVID regulations, it was a lot harder to service clients because I’m constantly in their personal space. As a esthetician, we are constantly providing services that require us to make our clients feel comfortable, informed and trustworthy. Advice I would give any business owner or entrepreneur is to give 150% into everything you do, to stay self motivated and remember to have fun!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my company NuNucleus Cosmetics during the time I was at school. The name it completely originated from my lifestyle. I started a small business cleaning designer purses in the 5th grade called “Wow…Just Like Nu”. The business was short lived, but the skill was still there. Growing up my favorite subjects in school were mathematics and science. I’ve always connected with science more, so being that the nucleus controls the activities of the cell., I felt since I was taking more control on my life to add that into my name. Cosmetics is obvious. I chose to create my name simply from….ME. The more you are able to connect with your audience, the easier it will be for them to trust in you as a professional. The hard part won’t be hard, as long as you do your best and put effort into everything you do. Not everyday is an “A” day and not everyday is an “B” day, but never accept an “F”. Congratulate yourself on the small accomplishments, so you can reward yourself for the biggest challenges.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are a lot of things to do in Dallas. If you are more of the creative type, you like the arts, we would visit the Perot Museum, African American Museum of Dallas, Selfie Bar in North Dallas and Deep Ellum for great picture taking. If you are more of the adventurous friend, we would go to Six Flags Over Texas (Mr. Freeze is my favorite ride) and K1 Speed. If you aren’t too much of a social butterfly, but still want to have fun, we would visit Studio Movie Grill, the perfect place to eat and watch the newest movies!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shoutout my school, Dallas Lash Academy in Dallas, Texas! In the beginning of my journey, I wasn’t sure where to fit in and who I wanted to be. Over the course of 9 months, I was able to graduate my esthetician program, test for both of my state exams, and come out a licensed esthetician…AT an affordable price and in a great location.
