Meet Cason Day | Actor, Musician, & Composer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cason Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cason, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success is creating what you want to see in the world. Whether that’s music, visual art, social change…success is being an active part of creation in a way that’s genuine and honest to who you are. As it applies to my music, I always write what I want to hear/play. I have my personal set of influences, and I naturally draw from those – I very rarely try to write something that I think is going to “sell” or something I think will be a hit. I just create what I enjoy and say the things that I need and want to say. As it relates to lyrics – I have a lot of trouble writing a good song that isn’t rooted somehow in my own experiences. Doing these things and keeping integrity at the forefront are how I stay successful.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I do a few different things!
My main gig is musical theatre. I’m currently playing Carl Perkins in a production of Million Dollar Quartet with Mountain Movers Theatre Co. in Kentucky. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world getting to do shows like this. It’s really fun getting to combine acting, singing, and guitar in such a fun and unique way.
I’m a composer as well! I write for musical theatre (both solo and with my writing partner Tanner Berry), and have composed several film scores. My most recent score was for the award-winning documentary Influencer by Zine Film Collective in New Zealand.
I’m an audio engineer, with credits on Blue’s Clue’s & You! and Gabby’s Dollhouse along with mixing credits for several artists in New York City and Houston, including my band – The Holy Veins.
I sing, play guitar, write, and engineer for my alternative-rock/pop band, The Holy Veins. We’re a three-piece, featuring Cameron Bishop on bass and backing vocals, and Pete Lazorcik on drums. We draw a lot of influence from bands like Muse, Royal Blood, Nothing But Thieves, and Thirty Seconds to Mars. Our debut EP, Daydream, is set for release in spring of 2022.
As I mentioned before, the way I stay level-headed and focused on my goals is staying fixated on integrity, and being the most authentic version of myself I can be.
That said, the most important lesson of all – be kind always! The entertainment world is a very small place, and beyond that – we’re all just human beings trying to find our place in this crazy world. Be kind!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spot in all of Houston is this wonderful coffee shop in Montrose called Agora. It’s been my go-to spot in the city for many years now. I love the vibe there, the coffee is delicious, and Montrose has the best energy.
You also have to check out a musical while you’re here – The Hobby Center is sure to be showing something amazing.
And finally, of course – no trip to Texas is complete without a trip to Whataburger. Or several trips.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my mom, Dena, always! Whether it was driving me to/from rehearsal growing up, listening to countless hours of me struggle to learn guitar and drums (shoutout to Smoke On The Water), or simply being the best cheerleader in the world – I’d have no career if it weren’t for her incredible love, support, and generosity.
