We had the good fortune of connecting with Dontrice Warren-Mcfee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dontrice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always thought about making women beautiful, feel pretty or just hoping to give them confidence. No matter how others may view us women WE as an individual feel some sort of way about our personal look. We all have a deep down insecurity about something on our bodies from head to toe. So I knew for sure creating custom wigs would be a big transformation for us from women of color or no color battling with cancer, alopecia, thinness or just not having that POP of beauty on a daily basis
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been an artist, no matter if it was drawing, decorating, sewing etc. Thru out my years of living I came to realize my talents and blessings are all in my hands. So i took my creativity and ran with it. I came from working fast foods to corporate Oil & Gas field. Those jobs never lasted due to either not paying enough or getting laid off. I was tired of that so after being laid off so many times, I took that time to pray about what God wanted me to do. All along it was hair but that wasn’t it either. Majority of my clients were battling with some sort of illness. Cancer, alopecia, thinning etc so I started to make custom wigs by hand. I did that for a while until I started seeing other wig stylist make wigs on a sewing machine. I wanted to learn that but the class some were offering were too expensive. So again I knew my talents were all in my hands and I took that and taught myself how to make wigs on sewing machine. Once I perfected the craft I started to teach others and became even more successful with helping others at an affordable price. God is amazing on how he can turn things around for the better. My goal was to help other women all around the board
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One thing about me is I love food lol. So I would most definitely find take them to all the good eatery’s. Like Phil & Derek’s, taste bar Houston, Graces and more. You know we women love some hookah so I’ll take them to Thirteen hookah lounge and you can also get food there as well. Nice food and music. I love bowling and skating so that’s also a place we would go. I’m from Houston Texas so it’s not too much to do here, so I would also try to do a mini trip outside of Houston and have spa days as well to wine down
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout-out my brother who name is Joe. He goes by the name of “The Abs Specialist” on Instagram. He’s a personal trainer, his business consist of helping individuals with their health and physical look. He also has his own clothing line, everything he has done is all done PERSONALLY by him. He’s my little brother but he was the one who motivated me by stepping out and going towards entrepreneurship. Joe is a very hard worker and puts his all in his work
