We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Barnhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When my daughter was born, I became filled with the desire to contribute to my community, something I felt would make it a better place to nourish her.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Vibrant, we are passionate about making food as functional as possible, while upholding the same extremely high standard in taste and pleasure. We use ONLY ingredients that are going to enhance your well-being, always sourcing the most responsible, well-produced options. We minimize inflammation as much as possible by not baking with eggs, and being completely free of gluten, dairy, and sugar. You will never miss those things at Vibrant, with how cleaver we get at making things taste as good as you would desire even without restrictions.
It has been easy to get to where we are because our mission and focus and standards are completely clear. It makes for very easy decision making and a straightforward operation. Also, our team all equally share in the passion to provide this incredibly high quality of food to our customers, which makes our flow and evolution seamless. We want the world to know how genuinely we are making food for feeling good.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
How fun!
I would take her shopping at All the Feels for the best vintage finds for the home, Genara for little “woo woo” treasures, and Kick Pleat for beautiful contemporary clothing. We would spend hours at Houston’s greatest treasure, The Menil Collection, followed by meditating at the Rothko Chapel. We would go to my two favorite workouts, Legree HTX and Khango, and would walk the nine-mile Bayou Trail loop from my house at sunset.
We would guzzle natural wine and cheese at Light Years Natural Wine Shop + Bar, eat all the things sitting at the bar at Nobie’s, Handies Douzo, and Theodore Rex. We would pop down for a sunset walk at Kahala Beach in Galveston. Also, take a walk on the forest boardwalk at Memorial Park and a stroll around the lake there! My favorite activity though is the sunset show at the James Turrell installation at Rice University. This sounds so fun, I can’t wait for this friend to visit 😉
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
At that time when I was brainstorming the project, I was influenced by books that outline the importance of children’s nutrition, Unleash the Power of the Female Brain by Dr. Daniel G. Amen and Disease-Proof your Child by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. I was also inspired at the time by Jessica Alba who created the Honest Company, who makes nontoxic baby products and Amanda Bacon, who created Moon Juice, making easy to approach adaptogens for everyday feeling good.
