We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharde Hawkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharde, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
If it wasn’t for risk taking, I wouldn’t even be as close as successful as I am now. To take risk is having faith in the unknown, in the universe, hell, in yourself! Taking those necessary and calculated risk has granted me so much in my career. It helped me eliminate fear and keep the courage to keep pushing forward, no matter what happens. Even when things don’t work out in my favor, it still works out in my favor because I am still granted with a lesson and I always know something better is on it’s way to me. If you’re reading this, this is your sign to take that risk! Don’t be the one to stop your life first because you’re afraid.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that, and I say this all the time, is that I am me. There is only one Sharde, and me being who I am is my superpower. No one can do it like me, ever. The way I got to where I am is being strong, doing my research, remaining teachable, trusting my intuition, and knowing when I am right and not afraid to stand on it. It’s never easy being a strong person, especially surrounded by people who aren’t as strong, but remaining true to who you are will never fail you. Self love got me to overcome these challenges, I loved myself too much to let someone else’s opinion bring me down. The main lesson I learned along the way is that you are what you attract. What you bring in is a reflection of you, whether that be business opportunities, friendships, relationships, situations, etc. You gotta reflect the world you want. I want the world to know that, I make it look easy but it wasn’t. Those lessons made me who I am today though.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was coming down, I would first take them to whataburger because duh, a Texas gem. I would then take them to a few museums because Houston has good museum attractions. I would take them to the Galleria and let them look around. If it’s during that time, I would definitely take them to the Rodeo/Carnival, that is one of my favorite things that come to Houston. I would also take them to China Town, such great food there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank alllll of my friends, every single one. Without y’all, I truly would not believe in myself fully and even more, the memories you all have granted me will never go unnoticed, you guys make life so much easier. I want to thank every team I have been a part of; Lady Rascals, Galing, & Sin City. You guys have opened doors for me in the best way possible, without these teams I wouldn’t even consider myself a dancer! Every director I have ever had, you all taught me well. The knowledge you passed on to me will always be appreciated. My family, I love y’all so much. To any person that supports me, learned from me, shared energy with me, I appreciate you so much, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you to everyone.
