We had the good fortune of connecting with Max Peters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Max, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were many factors in the decision to start a business.  The driving force was the burning to desire to live life on my own terms with using the talents that God provided me.  I worked in an industry that was not stable and had little room for growth in my view.  I was a manager but felt trapped and unsatisfied with my career path.  I feel as though we truly live in the land of opportunity, so any feeling of being trapped in a job or career is self-imposed.  I was determined to set a new sail for my family and myself.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Gulf Coast Bread Pudding is a specialty bakery that focuses on providing quality flavors by the slice and pan. We are the only bread pudding focused dessert shop in Houston and perhaps the entire country. In the past, we had challenges with getting our product into our customers hands as a cottage business operating out of a commercial kitchen.  Also, we were unable to provide our customers with the ability to sample a variety of items since we only sold bread pudding by a large single unit (by the pan). These were some of the challenges that motivated us to open our first brick and mortar location.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend was visiting from out of town for the week, I’d expose them to Houston culture. We would visit the galleria, dine at upscale restaurants, visit the museum district/Houston landmarks, catch a professional game or two, and I’d provide historic background on the city. We’d also attend poetry readings and art galleries around the city. Throughout the week, I would make certain we visit local Houston based eateries for the full H-Town food experience. Houston’s rich culture would definitely leave a lasting impression on our guest.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife has been my backbone throughout this entire journey. When discussing plans to leave my corporate job and begin the entrepreneurship venture, she didn’t hesitate to provide the love and support that was needed to get this venture off the ground. She is also an amazing business partner and who plays a critical role in our operation.
