We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Wasu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sophia, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I think the most important habit that helped be succeed was to stay consistent. Making sure I was posting what was true to me and having a schedule. I knew that I had to get most of my video up and done during the beginning of the week, bc being a mom of three, things get messy towards the end of the week. Till today I post a new recipe for my “Don’t mix it cakes” every monday. Also, I never worried about how many views it was getting or how it was doing, I knew I was doing something fun and it was just for me,

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have always loved to cook and bake and be in the kitchen. After I got married I had moved to London and opened a bakery. As we grew our family and made a choice to move back home to Florida, I became lost in being a mom. As, my kids have gotten older and I have had more time for me, I realized I am happiest in the kitchen. When, covid hit and the kitchen not only was the heart of our home, it was an office, a school, and where my family decided to always be. I downloaded this little app called TikTok and like many was addicted instantly. I watched for months saying I would never be able to record myself and be like the amazing people I saw daily. Then, one day, I was brave. I made a fun video using a sound and that was all I needed. I was hooked. my first video got 26 views and that was out of the world for me. Eventually I started to make little of videos of what I do all day and people really seemed to gravitate around my cooking videos. So it began. It started as snacks and things I made for dinner. Then one day I made a dump cake. Oh boy, the response was phenomenal. I didn’t know how many people thought this was a new concept. It was not. What was new, were the flavor combinations I started creating. Everyone starting noticing that in the recipes I would always say ‘don’t mix it’ hence the trend was born. Thank you everyone who made this stay at home mom have a life of her own again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Orlando, there is a lot to do in this town for the best time ever. For me, the attractions are not what you think they would be. I would take you to all the local restaurant owned by Orlando locals. I would take you to Lake Eola where we would feed the swans and also take a swan boat out on the lake. we would then go to any of the beautiful springs around Orlando and spend the day soaking up the beautiful sun and cooling ourselves off in the crystal clear water.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes mainly to my family. My mom and dad always made a home full and rich of arts, culture, and cooking. I learned everything I know from them. Next, my husband, he’s always given me the boost to do what I love and has never wanted to edit me in any way. Also, my tribe, my closest friends who are more like family than friends, Angela, Tami, Harleen, Jyoti, Vicky and Jyothi, thank you all for always being my support, even when I thought I couldn’t go on. Lastly, my children, the three of you are the reason I do anything. I love you.
