We had the good fortune of connecting with Ellenah Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ellenah, what matters most to you?
staying true to who i am, making sure that i grow from each milestone i hit and i am constantly bettering myself and my craft.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So, i started singing when i was 8. at least with passion haha. my grandma used to sing for a church choir so it trickled down if you will. i’ll be honest, i tried out for the vocal competitions and everyone always said the same thing “your voice is so diverse, you can sing so many genres but you should sing spanish!” but that was never my forte. i was more pop/rnb. it’s hard to describe my sound because i always change and altar my voice to what i’m writing or listening to. you know that whole story where the artist gets screwed over by a “manager” well that happened to me 2020-2021. it was the most difficult time in my life i think. being forced to sing things i didn’t want to, wearing clothes that compliment my personality. it was a lot you know? but with time, tears and gods tests i made it through. i actually owe a lot of my mental sanity to my kids and my fiancé. she’s been with me 8 years now and is almost physically my other half. i can’t function without her. she helps me grow you know? i don’t have much a mother figure so i get my knowledge on how to do life things through her or my kids and friends. after so many years of telling myself i couldn’t write music i failed to realize, i write in journals everyday. literally i have stacks of them so why not turn that into music? singing covers is fun sure but when you write a piece that’s YOURS you feel so accomplished. it’s like you can rule the world haha. i finally am releasing my first single as ME. just ellenah, actually “iamlenah” but it’s mine. i can’t wait to turn the rest of my stories into music. this new one though, ‘worth a shot’ it’s very summer just in time for the season. it’s flavorful and has a miami feel. i feel really good about it, and you know what? i incorporated some spanish in it 😂 but the way I WANT.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
oooo, this is a good one. houston is full of hidden gems. it’s nice not to go to a chain every once and a while. while i don’t drink alcohol (for about a year now for a healthier lifestyle) i would start our morning with coffee! there’s the cutest place in my area called buzz’ n bites. it’s not only the place for coffee but also the food & owners personality matches the atmosphere. after that i’d probably make a stop at the color factory. pictures are kinda my thing so they have the perfect backdrops! i heard the one in the galleria and memorial is great too. we actually LOVE doing escape rooms haha so you have to check out escape it! discovery green is also beautiful and they always have little events. the nightlife here is awakening too! there’s so many places to go to for a casual drink or if you’re in the mood to dance.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
my dad, honestly. he was a sound engineer for many years & he has an ear for music. he’s also brutally honest haha. so when i was growing up and i would sing different genres he would tell me what to stray from and what to push forward with. he’s my best friend.
