Meet Jaime Hayde | Graphic illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaime Hayde and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaime, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After The university I did several internships, around two years applying to several works and trying to find my place. One day I was working on a branding studio and the director had a talk with me, she encouraged me to follow my heart and try my solo adventure as illustrator.

I was scared but at that moment there was no other option so I decided to jump. I created a portfolio and took some courses about creating a small business. The starting was hard and still is sometimes, but I don’t regret. I have enjoyed my path and still doing it , I truly believe this is the key

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I do create illustrations for companies and personal work too. When I started my solo adventure I was afraid of showing who I was and it was amazing when I showed who I was and translated my feelings into illustrations projects started to come interested in my particular style, which is playful, colorful and fulled of double senses. I love drawing people with diverse bodies, specially men.

I love showing the love I feel, many times underrepresented because I have felt the lack of happy LGTBIQ stories all my life so I try to create these stories that show happiness, tenderness and love

I work hard and practice every day and definitely it hasn’t been easy, It’s a roller coaster.

I do love challenges so please if you are reading and have an amazing project take a chance on me.. For me the worst part is dealing with the uncertainty.


Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Getxo a town in the north of Spain, near Bilbao.

I would take my friend to la Galea, is a path over the cliffs and I love to go there to relax with my dog Rocco.

My boyfriend and I always go to “la croissanterie” to have a sweet dessert called “palmera de chocolate” or “triangulo de chocolate” so I would also take them there. Then we would move to taste several “pinchos”from a bar called Satistegui and once we were satisfied we would go to see the “old port” where my town has it’s roots.

We would go to visit Bilbao and my favorite museum “fine arts museum”
and we would have a pizza at “demaio” and another palmera from “arrese”

Basque country has many things to do and Amazing people. I’m not a person who tries to chase spots I prefer people and moments.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For sure Marina Goni the founder of a branding studio under her name.

I have had many references along my path.
The discovery of the American modernism was a whole new world for me specially Paul Rand because he helped me to change my mind with his capacity to resume things.

Apart from that when I was discovering myself I found there were “gay illustrators” and it was amazing many authors are special for me specially David Gilson and his participation on a fanzine called “rendez vous” I was amazed by the love in his drawings.

Currently I follow the work of many great illustrators going to mention some of my favorites, Malika Favre, Genie Espinosa, Adolie Day, Jose Roda, Marylu Faure.

Last but not least my boyfriend is a great inspiration for me, knowing him made me embrace myself and my color palette suddenly was brighter and colorful.
