We had the good fortune of connecting with Cache Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cache, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work-life balance can be challenging. Just like life itself, work has its ups and downs. There will be good and busy seasons then you’ll have the not-so-busy but steady seasons. Instead of pushing myself to always try and be busy. When I am able to rest, I rest. When I do have an upcoming major holiday or major event, I make sure I give myself enough time to prep, rest, and plan. I learned to gradually do certain things over time and not all at once. Anxiety and procrastination can slowly creep in and that’s when things get a bit crazy. Balance takes lots of trial and error but with time I believe it can be accomplished.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m currently a flight attendant. From my studies in school to the floral business, and now being a flight attendant life has really shocked me! If you would’ve told me a year ago that my current life would be the way it is I would’ve laughed it off. There have been many challenges when it came to my career, my identity, and my perceived future/passions. I never thought I would be a small business owner. I never thought I would be in the current career I’m in now. What I’ve learned the most is that sometimes the plan you have for yourself may seem so grand and great but it could be so small and narrow compared to what God has planned for you! I was so tunneled vision last year and God opened my eyes to so much more. I realized I can literally do anything! Seriously! Who says you have to do one thing for the rest of your life. I strongly believe we all have multiple gifts. I’m just currently exploring all of mine.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Coffee shops have been my vibe lately to get work done or simply for reading. So first would be to go to Brass Tracks! If we wanted to skip the coffee shop vibe and go straight to brunch either The Kitchen or CommonBond will do justice. The best catfish and grits by far have been Lucille’s. For a more chill day, Railway Heights Market is always a great way to spend the day. You could literally eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner there! Houston has some great contemporary museums so on a Thursday (where it’s free) would be perfect. Stop by a bookstore or two. Kindred Stories is the perfect hidden gem for book lovers. If there is time for happy hour, Bar Louie, has been my ultimate favorite spot.
Lastly, The Post is a good way to finish the night off with some comfort food and some nice views of the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have to first give a shoutout to my mom. She constantly is in support of all the crazy and out-of-the-blue ideas my sister and I throw at her. She is always coaching us to give things a try and see what comes from them. So for that, I’m thankful. To all my family and friends, that always give me advice when it comes to the business and new ideas I appreciate them to the fullest. They always keep me on my toes with new concepts to try! Couldn’t make it without their support and presence.
