We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamye Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamye, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m a well respected playwright in Houston. I had sold out every show I had produced and as I was approaching my 21st sold out show, COVID19 shut down the entire city/world. I was devastated. As I witnessed death after death (co-workers, family, friends) I suffered a deep depression along with many others around me. I asked myself, “Jamye, how do you help get the city back attached to hope and laughter?” Because I was always the “go-to” person for relationship advice, I created “Dear Jamye”. “Dear Jamye” was a platform to express, vent, bond, and simply laugh through one of the hardest times life had offered most individuals.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being labeled a creative genius, I have orchestrated a way for people to open up about life, relationships and struggles, and be entertained while doing it. Hearing how “real people” handle “real situations” has motivated so many. My platform has created the ability for anonymous questions about deep personal issues to be answered. People want to share their issues without being judged. “Dear Jamye” has been that space where comfort and conversation has met.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a foody. My favorite food spot (as of late) is “Backyard Boilhouse”……freshest seafood in the city. Ask Ed Micheaux for the crab rice!  OMG. My favorite hangout places are normally ANYTHING black owned and normally around the Third Ward area. I’m very easy, but I go to places that respect me and my money.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The “DEAR JAMYE” COUNSELORS! I adopted “counselors” to this platform. Real people who have experienced real life situations. Over 5,000 people help me coach, direct, and sometimes influence other people to make life altering situations easier. We don’t always give the right advice, but we give the best advice and it’s always hilarious!
