We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Rose Walling and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela Rose, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Born and raised in Houston. My mother is an artist. She has an Art and Educational degree. She would take us to the art museum when we where little. She is the reason for most of my creativity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out painting landscapes in oil. When I started doing acrylic abstracts I knew I found my niche. Music has a lot of influence on my artwork. I pick my colors and music and letting the canvas come to life. I love using neon paint so most of my artwork glows under a black light. I also incorporate my artwork into fabric and have my own fashion line at angelarosewearableart.com
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So many places. First to my Winter Street studio, then galleries and art markets that are open. Find a nice place to get a good view of our beautiful downtown. Also try out some of my favorites restaurants and bars around the Heights, East End and Spring Branch. Especially those that have live music for a fun experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many has help me on my journey. My Mom of course, All the beautiful ladies of my ladies art group the Art B. They gave me the encouragement and support to show my artwork to the world. Mitch Cohen, of the First Saturday Art Market. Being part of this creative group gave me confidence and guidance on how to sell and display my art. Winter Street Studio, having the opportunity to my own creative space to show and expand my creatively. My amazing studio mates present, Teresa Staley and Crystal Wreden and past, Cherie Salinas and Tori Hill. I am grateful for all that has been there of making my dreams come true.
