We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles Eugene and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charles, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Overtime I’ve learned true peace comes from balance. I learn that life is about constructing your world based off your interest. One of the main things I focus on while pursuing my dreams is to make time for myself. I balance dedicating at least an hour engaging into something that brings my positive energy regardless of what i’m going through. I even choose a day through out the week that’s strictly dedicated to pleasing my needs without focusing on the stress of personal issues. As an entrepreneur the work never stops. The business stops when you decide to no longer grow. Before balancing school, life, and my passion was difficult. However, I was raised by mother who install one phrase I live by everyday, Failure is not an option. I make sure to create a plan and put it on paper. In order to create balance we must first master our personal growth. Taking care of our eseential needs before we venture of into other things. The more secure you are; the better the outcome. In other to succeed you must limit your stress and create room for you to focus. Analyze yourself and enhance your weakness. Remain teachable and focus on creating habits that contribute to your dream life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m proud to say that after graduating college. I was able to start my own business and become a professional DJ where my life doesn’t feel like work. Balancing school, running a business and djing in the night life pushed my body to the limit. Their were days I wanted to quit. However, I told myself I can do all three despite the odds. The biggest stress factor was finishing school for my mom. She believed in my dream however I made a promise that I would finish school for her as a reward for supporting and raising me into the man I am today. Unfortunately, school took longer then expected battling all the challenges I faced and she passed nearly a year before I graduated. Despite the depression i was going through I wanted to be a man of my word and complete the mission. Now I venture out to help those who suffer from depression and use my music to create positive memories for people. Overtime music has proven to be therapeutic for me and I want to share that energy to the world with my craft. I’ve learned the secrete to successes is consistency. I never gave up spinning. Even through times where I wasn’t getting booked. During that time I would pick up jobs to sustain my living and practice everyday until the next opportunities arrives. Stay ready so you never have to get ready. To overcome the challenges I faced, it took the support of my colleges who were always brainstorming with me ways to keep going. Everyday felt like a board meeting. We never expected the outcome, but it proved we could accomplish anything as long as we keep pursing and learning from our mistakes. We would invest in parties, artist, marketing etc, until something hit. I want this world to know sometimes in ordered to live your dream, we can’t wait for the opportunity, we worked toward creating it ourselves. Instead of waiting for a venue to call us, we found one. Instead of looking for someone to invest in us, we worked and raised the money ourselves. Teaming up with other people who had the skills we needed in order to execute our plans. Long nights and hours led to my success thus far and continues to grow. I wont stop until I achieve my goal. I want the World To remember DJ Cmix a true master of his craft and originator of his own sound. The greatest mixer of all time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Baton rouge my favorite spots are Dior, Freds in Tigerland, University Seafood ( the Owner always showed me love), Citybar, Dead Poet. Can’t Leave the city without going to Tsunami Rooftop Sushi Bar. Walk- Ons during football season. I tend to travel alot therefore I don’t have many spots, but when I’m in town those are my pit stops. Favorite activity going to the movies; AMC Imax theater by Mall of Louisiana and Perkins Rowe. Outside of that revisit LSU to find a pick up game of flag football. The one sport I can’t run from and first passion. When I’m in Houston all I need is a taco truck downtown and I’m satisfied.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and for most my Mom, Donna Solomon who told me to chase my passion and do whatever it takes to make it happen. Shaquille O’Neal for giving me a platform to showcase my skills. Kyle Evans and Casey Evans, twin brothers were the first to invest in my talent in Baton Rouge. Kyle Evans gave me my first DJ gig at Mikes in Tigerland. Soon led to Casey Evans booking me to open for major artist such as Wale, Kevin Gates, Migos, etc. Soon after opportunities opened up for me as my first tour experience was with Kevin Gates( Thank you Kevin Gates for that experience). Shortly afterwards I became LSU Official DJ for Basketball and Gymnastics. Huge shoutout to Fred’s in Tiger land who hired me to perform at their venue numerous times expanding my exposure to the world. However, my DJ Journey remained intact under the mentorship of DJ Ya Boy Earl in my beginning stage. Later on running into (DJ Deaf) who continues to help guide me on the Music industry. Till this day he motivates me to keep going. Huge shoutout to DJ Midas Touch, a close friend of mine who always kept me on my toes when it came to the art of djinn pushing me to practice and surpass my limits. My overall success comes from a combination of the people in Louisiana and other states believing in my talent allowing me to continue on my path. Huge Shout to Jonathan Lambert who is now owner of his own venue called, Dior . We worked together for years throwing legendary house parties in baton rouge. S/o to DJ Brentaughtyou and Burgess Williams who joined me performing live at concerts as MCs to enhance the experience for the audience.
