We had the good fortune of connecting with Deandria Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deandria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been super creative and hungry for freedom. I knew as a teenager that I would use my gifts and I didn’t want to limit myself to a specific salary..
What should our readers know about your business?
I own Shop Prissy Girl which is an online business where I sell hair extensions, wigs, accessories, e-books and more. I have always been into hair. It began in 2014. I started buying hair from this hair company and at that time I was in college. I would wake up every day, do my hair and get pretty. It seemed as though every day a girl would ask me “where did you get your hair from?” And I would put them on. One day I said to myself, “I want to sell hair with this same exact quality, and I want everyone to start buying their hair from me because obviously I’m a walking billboard”.
Starting a business has been one of the hardest obstacles for me. It’s a constant battle between self belief and self doubt. I think what sets me apart is that I absolutely never give up because this is my purpose in life. I am prissy, I love making girls feel pretty, heck, I’m a makeup artist too! I just love all things girly as heck!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like doing simple stuff like movies, top golf, bowling or going to a nice bar. Houston has so much to choose from.
I love Taste Bar. I can never get tired of going there. It’s black owned and the vibes are so chill. They have good music and amazing food so if you’re a foodie like me, I highly recommend their lamb chops.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to acknowledge family and friends. It’s seriously too many people to name. Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and the gratitude I have is outstanding. My pastor has also been a great mentor throughout my journey by helping me stay mentally grounded. You can’t run a business without mental clarity so I’m super grateful for him. Also, my parents have always believed in me and encouraged me to keep going so knowing I have their support has played a major role in my journey..
