We had the good fortune of connecting with Guero G The Artist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Guero G, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always went against the grain, while my peers where bragging about how much they would make at work. I would contemplate on how to make money without working for someone. I’ve been involved with several business setting & helped lead others into entrepreneurialship. It’s all about taking risk, managing your assets, patience, & consistency. You will have failures in business, but each failure will only bring you closer to success!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I came from nothing and had to be pretty creative growing up so I think art is just naturally instilled in me. While other kids where reading comics and watching cartoons I was infatuated with lowrider magazines and the art put into the cars. Although I still haven’t had a chance to be featured in Lowrider I’ve had my artwork featured in the “Mini Truckin” magazine on a collaboration I did with a good friend Lay Wall. He did all the patterns and I layed down the airbrush work. I’ve also been working with Sten Joddi the Native rapper/actor who has guest appearances in the FX & Hulu series “Reservation Dogs”, as Punkin Lusty. Playing the father of one of the stars Bear Smallhill, played by D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai. We have been in collaboration with his clothing line www.stenjoddimerch.com for going on a year now. I do a majority of his personal graphics and designs wich stem back from a NFT collection I created “NFT Drip Collection” @ https://opensea.io/collection/nft-drip-collection Where I feature Sten Joddi as one of the characters. From there our business relationship has continued to grow. I have also had the opportunity to paint a longboard for Cincinnati Reds own Pete Rose which he raffled off for a charity he was part of here in Houston back in 2016. I’ve been a part of the Houston sports scene since 2011 where you could see my artwork in the parking lots of the NRG stadium on custom Gameday Mask & t-shirts, ect. Here we are in 2022 and still going strong. There has been a lot of ups and downs through out the years but it has been an amazing experience. I feel like the end of 2021 and 2022 have been the most influential years of my career so far. I can not wait to see what the future has in store for my family and I as we journey into 2023!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them out to eat at one our many taquerias which you can find all over Houston to enjoy some authentic Mexican food. I’m a big movie buff and love going to Star Cinema so we would have to catch atleast one dinner and a movie. Then we would have to check out the Houston bike scene. I’m a part of one of our city’s custom cruiser bicycle crews “Slow Soul Cruiserz” https://www.facebook.com/groups/786359131868892/?ref=share So of course I’m going to take them for a ride downtown to see all the sites. Our skyline is beautiful but nothings more beautiful than hitting the streets of downtown at night on a bicycle and seeing if first hand. Depending on what time of the year it is we would have to take a trip out to Galveston to see the beach. Before the week was up we would have to grab a mountain bike and hit the Sugarland MTB trail. probably one of the best keep up trails in the Houston area. Yes if I’m not out enjoying food putting on weight I’m out cycling or doing some kind of cardio trying to find some balance in between! lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to give a shout out to my fiancé Esmeralda of “B.A.B.E Esthetics” & our daughter Thalia Rose. Esmy has supported my Artistry 100% from the start and constantly encourages me to chase my dreams. When my daughter was born in 2019 my passion for art and business had a whole new spark too it. So she is definitely a key factor to any success I’ve gained in the last 3 years.
