When I was little, my dad would start each morning off by saying, “Carpe diem,” which is a Latin phrase meaning seize the day. It’s such a simple expression yet holds such significant meaning. Carpe diem has now become a common phrase between me & my husband – and each time I hear and say it, I’m motivated to embrace every day and painting as if it were my last. Read more>>

“Success comes in Cans, not in Cannots” This quotes sits very direct with me. You will never become successful at something by saying “I cannot do that.” You can only become successful by saying “I can!” This quote fit into my daily life as well as my long term goals. I was introduce to this quote from my 5th grade teacher and its been in my back pocket every since. Read more>>

One quote you can say that I stand by is, “Inhale Expression Exhale Creativity.” It’s a slogan that I have listed on my business cards and my website. The statement came to me while creating a painting on a canvas. As artist, we involuntarily put our passion in to what we do, and it’s always a bold step to share this with the world and be ready to face the criticism. This is why I believe many artist are sensitive about their works. Its a personal experience that’s not always meant for the audience to understand, but to enjoy the mystery of putting it together. Learning the artist true meaning behind why this piece was created. Read more>>

Herman Melville said “It is better to fail in originality, than to succeed in imitation”. I always liked this quote as its a great reminder that perhaps ones work will not bring them riches and notoriety, but they can look back with pride knowing that what they did create was unlike anything else that came before… uniqueness equals real power regardless of any external recognition. One of my favorite quotes, that I consistently remind myself of, is from the legend himself, Quincy Jones: “Have humility with your creativity and grace with your success.” I love this quote because it’s a reminder of how vulnerable the creative process can be. When I first started writing songs, I felt a lot of anxiety when showing them to other people. Over time, I realized that if I wanted to achieve my goal as an artist, I had to let that go and just accept other’s feelings about my work- that’s humility. Not in the sense that it isn’t good enough, but that it IS my best effort, and that is ALWAYS good enough. Grace plays a role if that particular piece of art lands with my collaborator, or a fan… it’s important to remember that initial state of humility, and therefore express how grateful I am for feeling understood. LIBBY: “Even when it’s bad, it’s still good” This has been my mantra as an artist that has encouraged me to keep creating even when I don’t feel motivated enough to create. It reminds me that bad art is still better than no art at all. As a business, even if you’re making awkward sales calls or asking colleagues questions that you’re afraid might be dumb questions, it’s still forward momentum and is always better than no action at all. RUDY: “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing.”-Homer Simpson You never know what you’re capable of until you try. Go for it. Read more>>
