We had the good fortune of connecting with Libby Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Libby, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
LIBBY: “Even when it’s bad, it’s still good” This has been my mantra as an artist that has encouraged me to keep creating even when I don’t feel motivated enough to create. It reminds me that bad art is still better than no art at all. As a business, even if you’re making awkward sales calls or asking colleagues questions that you’re afraid might be dumb questions, it’s still forward momentum and is always better than no action at all. RUDY: “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing.”-Homer Simpson You never know what you’re capable of until you try. Go for it!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Beefcake Records is a punk rock record label run by us (Rudy & Libby) in Dallas, Texas. LIBBY: As musicians and fans of punk rock, we have always been passionately involved with the music scene in Texas. For over a decade, we’ve been booking shows (both at venues and our home), hosting touring bands, and interacting with labels. From that, we learned that supporting musicians was something we wanted to do in a meaningful way. We decided to start a record label as a way to get amazing bands with cool and talented people able to share their music. RUDY: There are some amazing bands with cool and talented people in them right here in Texas. I wanted to start here first. I want to help share this music and get stoked over a few beers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in Dallas so we’d get tacos from “El Si Hay”, Museum Of Modern Art and end it with a beer at Three Links.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The punk rock scene in Austin was always very supportive. There is a tight knit group of friends and bands that would always make us excited to attend and book shows with. Shout out to that entire group and the bands they play in. (Check out some amazing bands like Capitalist Kids, Hans Gruber & The Die Hards, Despero, and Nite Sobs!)
