“Be brave enough to be bad at something new.” -Jon Acuff The fear of failure often keeps me from attempting things. I used to get discouraged easily when I didn’t immediately succeed. I finally realized…how silly of me! Everyone has to start somewhere and each failed attempt teaches me something new and gets me closer to succeeding. This quote has really helped me shift my point of view not only when it comes to blogging, but in all areas of my life. I set it as my phone background, so I see it often. It is a constant reminder to try new things, even when I am nervous. I think anyone can benefit from adopting this point of view…let’s all be brave together. Read more>>

I am a lover of words so I always have a handful of favorite quotes at a time. One quote that I have been repeating a lot lately is “consistency = success”. It’s easy to get discouraged or sidetracked when creating content and building up a brand, so I am constantly reminding myself that daily effort, one step at a time is far better than doing nothing at all. I feel confident that if I continuously work at something, a little bit each day, I will be able to look back a year from now in awe. It’s not about what you do in one month of really hard work, it’s what you do day in and day out that truly defines your success, your discipline, and your character. The ability to be consistent says more about you and your potential for success than anything else you do. Two other quotes I love are “feel the fear and do it anyway” and “comparison isn’t only the thief of joy, it’s also the thief of dreams”. Read more>>

“We all pretend to be the heroes on the good side, but what if we’re the villains on the other?” These lyrics from Stella Jang’s track Villain often prompted me to introspect on my thoughts, decisions, and experiences. It reminded me to observe myself and strive to be more empathetic towards others. On the flip side, “You are not how other people see you […] the real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself” is a quote that resonates with me right now. In response to my own conflicting thoughts, I am left with uncertainties about my authenticity as an artist. Though these phrases may not be complete affirmations, they’re valuable for me as I’m learning how to enjoy the process of the unknown. Read more>>

My favorite quote at the moment is from a paper that Audre Lorde presented in 1977. She says, “I have come to believe over and over again that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood.” This resonates with me because I feel like I spent most of my life being too afraid to share my talents, my ideas, my work with the world. Nobody wants a bruised ego, so keeping my work to myself serves as a defense mechanism. It took me a while, but I realized that hoarding my ideas is a form of self-harm. While I thought I was protecting myself from outside scrutiny, the inner turmoil from withholding it all was much more dangerous. So when Audre Lorde tells us to get it out no matter what the consequence may be, I fully understand how speaking my soul is much more valuable than settling for silence. Read more>>

One of my favorite quotes is one that my mother gave to me as a young child. “I believe I can do anything, if only I believe.” It has been a staple in my life and a foundation in continuing on this journey of following my dreams even when I am scared. I hold it dear to my heart. Read more>>

I recently got into manifesting and using affirmations actually. A few years back I was the kind of person who would laugh at the idea of saying a few sentences to make myself feel better. One of my favorite ones right now is, “I am where I need to be right now.” It’s a small, but powerful one. To me it means that although I am striving to one day stand in higher places, where I am now is exactly where im meant to be. It’s my daily reminder to acknowledge how I’m feeling in the present moment and to relish in this face of my life. Read more>>

I actually have a favorite scripture, Jeremiah 29:11. It states, “For I know the plans that I have to prosper you, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This means that my God will bless me where I am with what I have. I like this scripture because it assures me that I have what I need inside of me to create greatness. Read more>>
