Meet Abi Shamji | Finance Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abi Shamji and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Watching so many women struggle financially during Covid really hit home for me. It brought me right back to seeing my mom try to make ends meet when I was growing up. She instantly became a single mom when my dad passed away when I was 12. I made financial literacy a priority having seen how important it is that women become financially independent. I thought – if I could learn this and become financially independent, other women can too. They just need someone to show them how. That’s why I started teaching investing in 2021. It’s honestly less about the money and more about making sure no woman feels stuck or powerless in her life because of finances

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is that I teach from experience, not theory. I built my own wealth through smart investments in stocks and real estate, and I show other women exactly how I did it. No complicated jargon, just practical strategies that work.
I’m most proud that over 1,000 women have learned to take control of their finances through my programs. Each success story reminds me of how the world is changing and women are becoming more and more powerful.
As an introvert, putting myself out there on social media was terrifying. I’d stare at posts for hours before hitting publish, worried about judgment. But I kept remembering why I started – every woman who reminded me of my mom gave me the courage to keep going.
The biggest lesson? Your mission has to be bigger than your fears. When I focus on the women I’m helping rather than my own insecurities, everything else falls into place.
What I want people to know about my brand is that it’s built on real experience and genuine care. This isn’t just business for me – it’s personal. Every woman deserves the financial knowledge to stand on her own two feet, and I’m here to make sure they get it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here’s my perfect week in Toronto, ON:
We’d start in Kensington Market, exploring the vintage shops and grabbing lunch at Pao (the best Thai spot)
We’d spend a day gallery-hopping in the Distillery District, stopping at SOMA for their famous hot chocolate. The ROM and AGO are classics.
The Islands are perfect for a summer day – we’d rent bikes and get that iconic skyline view. For nightlife, we’d check out some rooftop bars like Lavelle, catch live music at the Dakota Tavern, and end with late-night drinks at Bar Raval.
Queen West is great for shopping and coffee hopping, and we’d definitely spend time exploring the unique shops in Yorkville.
And you can’t visit Toronto without catching a Jays game or checking out the CN Tower – sometimes the tourist spots are popular for a reason!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, my biggest shoutout goes to my mom. After losing my dad when I was 12, she worked incredibly hard to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. Even when things were tight, she never let her struggles dim her spirit. Watching her taught me two critical lessons: the importance of financial independence and the incredible resilience of women. Her strength sparked my drive to become financially secure, and now her story inspires every woman I teach. My success isn’t just mine – it’s a testament to the values and determination my mom instilled in me.
