We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Rust and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adam, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
That is a question I have been asking my people for a long time now. Its funny because when you grow up, somehow people get this notion or feeling that certain worldly things or people bring happiness to them. For me, there is only two things that brings joy to my life and that is God and the choice to actively love my wife. I will elaborate on my wife though. I don’t depend on any certain person to “make me happy”. That would set every relationship I am in up for failure. Happiness is not a feeling it is a choice. Everyday I wake up I get the opportunity to be thankful and to be happy. Even when things go wrong, its so much harder to create negative energy than it is to be positive and consciously make the decision to say, “you know what I am so thankful for the blessings i have each day and today I chose to be happy and help others”! That’s usually the days where I accomplish a lot more than when i get flustered and things don’t go exactly how I wanted them to! I would say any kind of hunting or fishing adventure makes me happy but that is just a high or Adrenalin rush you get when execution of a good plan comes together because when it doesn’t, I am the opposite of happy!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Helix Insurance Group. This business has literally consumed my life over the past four years. I didn’t really realize it but the 8 years working for Liberty Mutual Insurance prior to Helix shaped me perfectly for this venture! What sets Helix apart from others is our customer experience and how well we adhere to our core values; Family, Integrity, Consistency, and Commitment. Our customer experience is everything. We set expectations up front and get their expectations. We follow up on what the customer expects and do what we say we are going to do when we say we are going to do it. Getting to this part of our adventure has been far from easy. Hiring, training, and developing very high performing sales teams has been a wild ride. I have had the opportunity to build close to a dozen 4-6 man sales teams over the past decade. All of these teams were made up of individuals that were extremely hard working and committed. Many of those agents that were a part of those teams have gone on to make six figure incomes for their families today. I think the the biggest thing I have learned through all of it is we always need a coach. If Lebron James makes $100 million dollars a year and needs a coach, I think its safe to say we all could use a coach in any profession. I can attest that having a high caliber business/life coach has been a extremely helpful in developing these teams and being the authentic leader I am capable of being every day! I want the world to know that Helix Insurance Group is made up of people who truly care. We show up every single day and work countless hours around the clock with team members from Texas to Puerto Rico. We are all about helping people and making a difference in our customers lives. We will not be outworked and the fire is only getting stronger!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So first they would come down and stay with us at our house in Tiki Island. We would first go to our favorite restaurant on the island “Number 13 Steakhouse”. If it was a special occasion we might also splurge a little bit and go to the San Louis Steakhouse on the sea wall. The “Old Fashion” at Hotel Galvez is pretty hard to beat, as well as the history and story behind it. If it was in the winter months, it would definitely consist of taking them on a duck, goose, or sandhill crane hunt on a private ranch along the coast in Galveston. If it was the spring or summer, we would have a full day of fishing planned that would take about a day to prepare for to go 100+ miles offshore fishing. We would target specifically Swordfish, Blue Marlin, Tuna, grouper, and red snapper. When we got back and the deckhands get the boat and fish cleaned there would be the freshest and most amazing ceviche you have ever tried from my beautiful wife! Lastly, a nice dip in the pool and watching the sunset is about the best thing you could experience after a long day of fishing offshore. We would also go to Moody Gardens by boat to watch the fire works and listen to the “bands on the sand” they have every weekend during the summer. Lastly we have an awesome group of friends here in Tiki Island so we would be hanging out at someones pool watching the sunsets each evening!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Whew that is an easy one. First my wife and Business partner. She is my biggest fan, critic, and motivator. She knows what I am capable of and if I need a swift kick in the rear she knows exactly what to say to motivate me. Most of all she has seen the 30,000 hours plus I have put in the businesses I am involved in and knows when I need the motivation the most! I have an amazing family and several mentors as well that have been amazing role models and I owe a lot to!
