We had the good fortune of connecting with Akanksha Batajoo Malla and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Akanksha, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative passion alongside my medical work to explore another facet of my identity and find balance. Creativity offers me a refreshing outlet from the demands of medicine and enhances my problem-solving skills. It allows me to approach challenges with fresh perspectives while fulfilling my passion for self-expression.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an international medical graduate, I condensed my entire 28 years of life into three suitcases and relocated from a completely different country to the USA. Establishing my identity proved challenging; starting afresh in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic only compounded the difficulty. Nonetheless, I possess an intrinsic drive to excel, constantly motivating myself to strive harder, even when nobody is clapping. I am never scared of failures and I am always thankful for the lessons they have taught me along the way. I am working as a Clinical Postdoctoral Associate in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the moment. My journey to reach my current position has been far from effortless, but as the adage goes, good things never come easy. I find contentment in the path that fate has charted for me, harboring no regrets for the trials and triumphs along the way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a massive food enthusiast, always eager to explore diverse cuisines. Luckily, I believe I’ve landed in the perfect city for culinary adventures – Houston! I’d certainly bring my friends to Bellaire China Town; there’s something exhilarating about strolling through and sampling the array of new culinary delights it boasts.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents deserve all the credit for shaping who I am today and empowering me to navigate life’s challenges with resilience. I want to express my deep gratitude and love for them. They instilled in me the values of strength and perseverance, and for that, I am forever thankful.
