We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Cook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexandra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Mostly because I was starting a family so wanted the freedom to make my own schedule. But also because I felt like I had a certain style of design that people liked and I didn’t want to be restricted to specific design styles that other companies have defined. I wanted to be the one who called the shots in terms of styling and branding a business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My designs are very simplistic but meaningful. People come to me because they feel my designs are high-end, yet relatable. I pride myself on making brands that people can truly grow with and won’t feel out of date in a few years.

I got here by working on all sorts of design projects. From full website designs to print work to billboards. I got a ton of experience in the first 10 years out of college and now apply that knowledge to running my own business.

I’ve learned the importance of having the confidence not only in yourself but also in your work. When dealing with tough, critical clients I learned not to take it personally and to still remain confident in the work I was doing, no matter how tough the criticism was. I learned there will always be tough clients but it is up to you how you handle them.

I want people to know that I am exremely passionate about what I do and I bring that passion into the designs I create for my clients. When you work with me you are not only getting beautiful designs but knowledge from someone who has been in the business for over 10 years.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will shout out to my favorite podcast that really taught me how to run a business. Rachel Cooks, Promote Yourself to CEO is amazing and I’ve learned so much on how to run and grow a business from her. She provides so much knowledge on business strategies and explains them in a way that makes them easy to understand and implement. I have not missed one of her episodes since I started my business.
