Meet Alexis Davis: Founder and CEO of The Content Plug

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson I have learned since starting The Content Plug is that you cannot (and should not!) try to scale your business on your own. It’s so easy to start out thinking that you can wear multiple hats and be the CEO, CMO, CFO, social media manager, project manager, etc. However, real success and growth occur once you add qualified members to your team who can provide new ideas, new skills, and can help you scale your business to new heights. Never feel like you have to run your business alone. It truly takes a village!
What should our readers know about your business?
The Content Plug helps businesses of every size command a key presence online. We specialize in creating and implementing social media and digital marketing strategies in order for you to connect with your target market and grow your business. I started The Content Plug in January 2018 after a fellow UNC alum asked me to help him manage his company’s social media channels. From there, my business grew and I’ve been able to help fellow founders and creatives in multiple industries maintain a credible social media presence. However, the journey has been far from smooth. I ran the business part-time with a full-time job for 2.5 years until August 2020 when I decided to take a giant leap of faith during the COVID-19 pandemic and solely focus on my business. I am happy that I decided to focus all of my time on the business and growing my team as the results of that decision have confirmed that my leap was worthwhile.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone is visiting Austin, Texas for the first time, a dream week of events involves: – Grabbing barbeque at Franklin’s and Terry Blacks – Eating breakfast tacos at Tacodeli and lunch/dinner tacos at Torchy’s Tacos – Grabbing drinks at Floppy Disk Repair Company, Garage, Small Victory, or another speakeasy in town – Hanging out at Zilker Park and kayaking and/or paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake – Driving to Houston to eat at Turkey Leg Hut – Spending Saturday in Texas Wine Country in Fredericksburg, Texas
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to my parents who have always encouraged me to chart my own course and take risks, even when they think being a social media manager means I simply tweet all day long.
