We had the good fortune of connecting with Alicia Collazo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alicia, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a full-time mom, wife, business owner and community volunteer I’ve had to learn how to properly balance it all. Throw in that I’m also autistic so you can see how much more difficult it is to keep all the balls juggling.
Multitasking doesn’t come naturally, I work better being able to focus on one task at a time.
When I first started my business I would get overwhelmed thinking about all the things I need to do in one day. It was only until I shifted into my strengths and adapting my approach to my responsibilities.
Now I create a list of priority tasks for the day, week and month. What needs to get done right away, what can wait to later in the week or what can be done anytime in the month.
Adjusting my work process like this gave me the freedom to give 100% of my energy and concentration to each important area of my life. Balance is all about knowing your strengths and limitations and working in those parameters. Not forcing it to work just because someone else does it that way.
What should our readers know about your business?
Incrowdsurfing is a social media management company with a focus on creating strong effective content strategies that work with the neurodivergent mind.
That means we help adhd and autistic business owners break free from the task paralysis that comes with social media marketing.
I started my company in 2022 as a means to help out a friend with her businesses social media. But I quickly learned that I not only loved creating captivating content but I also had a knack for creating simple strategies to keep my clients consistent on social media. (Which is the key to success!)
Of course, it wasn’t easy. Since I had no formal education in marketing. So I had to research and learn everything as I worked. What helped me gain my footing was a strong network of women/friends in my field who were generous with their time and knowledge.
That has taught me to do the same for others in my field and even for my audience on social media. Gate keeping knowledge is something I’ll never do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in downtown Houston so of course my first stop would be a:
1. baseball game at Minute Maid stadium. Complete with a michelada and nachos
2. Next day we would get a day pass to Marriott marquee hotel and spend the day floating down the Texas shaped pool.
3 For coffee we would head into the city to campesino cafe for a cafe de olla and concha. Lunch would be at los primo’s birria at the underground food hall.
4. Dinner would be done at the post where we could sample all kinds of different foods from around the world. Then we would make our way up to the roof for selfies with the city skylight.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to mention my very good friend Tania Thomas at tanialinneacreations.com. We have been very close friends for a number of years now. I’ve learned so much from her when it comes to being kind to yourself as a mom, chronic illness warrior, and business owner.
Her creativity as a brand strategist and her energetic positivity encourages me to look at life on the bright side no matter what’s going on in my life.
The way she works with her branding clients and brings out the magic they were envisioning for their brand, motivates me to bring that same energy to my own clients.
