We had the good fortune of connecting with America Gatewood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi America, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always been into makeup since a little girl so, after I graduated high school in 2015 I knew that was something I wanted to always do. I would go on YouTube everyday and watch makeup tutorials and beauty influencers who inspired me the most. Fast forward to 2016 is when I made my first makeup tutorial on YouTube I recorded everything from my iPhone 7 and uploaded from my computer, I actually did good on views than I thought I would but I was not consistent so I started practicing my skills on family and friends and as time past i got better and better on different skins tones. As I was building my clientele in my hometown I decided I should start my own makeup business because I started enjoying doing it on other people than, myself trying to be a beauty influencer it just took up to much time and again you have to be consistent to gain subscribers, views ect but, even though I did not have a lot of clients yet I never gave up because thats what I was most interested in and I knew I would get better if i kept trying.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Thebeautifultribe is all about creativity and bringing makeup looks to life, any makeup glam my clients ask for simply will be delivered! It was not easy getting where I am now in the makeup industry and, I’m not quite where I want to be but my business is growing everyday. I’m listening and learning new things everyday and I’m very proud of where I’m headed! Patience is key I had to realize I’m not going to always have 50+ clients a month, may not have a fully booked schedule every week but during those times I’m not fully booked, I read and watch and think of ways to become better, see what areas I’m lacking in and see how I can improve!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love us some hookah a nice scenery and drinks! So I would take them to Lost and found that is one of my fav chill spots with great food and Turkey Leg Hut.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout-out to all my clients that stood beside me no matter what and, help me grow my business as the years past, also thankful for all the big time beauty influencers on YouTube who taught me different techniques, time management, marketing etc.
