We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Andrea, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
To love yourself wholeheartedly and be yourself. When Daily Dose started, I was at the lowest point of my life, and I had to understand that it was just me at the end of the day. Yes, I had supportive family members and friends, but the person who could turn how I felt around was me. Daily Dose represents a beautiful statement of rediscovery. My brand’s goal is transparency. To truly see yourself and love the person beneath the layers of hardship, societal standards, and restrictions that we live with daily.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got to where I am today by asking for guidance and always listening to others. Yes, I am the founder, but suggestions can make all the difference when elevating your business platform. It’s always better to hear an outside opinion to help your current thought process. As a growing business, the challenges we are facing now are the details. The little details can easily elevate the quality of packaging and the customer experience. Although, growing my business into a larger platform is a challenge I’m willing to face. The lesson I’ve learned is to take my time. I call the shots, and I need to remind myself that as a business, we have time to grow and time to focus on the details. I would like everyone to know that Daily Dose by Drea started with no intention of being a business. My art came from a point in my life where I couldn’t see past the pain I was personally facing. Thankfully, something beautiful came from it, and since then, I’ve always looked at Daily Dose as my creative escape. The message behind my brand is to love yourself and to see yourself for who you are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a week-long visit to Houston, I would recommend eating in Chinatown on night one. Fufu Cafe’s dumplings will always have my heart and then, of course, karaoke with friends. The interactive exhibit, Seismique, is where I would go for photo opportunities and a good time. Pistoleros would be my lunch spot for a day on the patio with margaritas. For the best dinner, I highly recommend Maison Pucha in the heights. For ‘me’ time, I would book an appointment with Jördan at Beauty Bungalow in the Heights and end the day buying jewelry from a local vendor, Heather Coman (founder of Two Little Byrds). The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A considerable part of my motivation to elevate Daily Dose stems from the support of other Houston Businesswomen. Jördan Baldwin (co-owner of Beauty Bungalow Heights) is a caring mentor and friend. Her guidance and pointers for a successful business have helped me shape Daily Dose into a growing cosmetic platform.
