We had the good fortune of connecting with Angie Blacklock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angie, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I think organization and planning are the main factors of achieving success in most areas of life. If you fail to plan, plan to fail. I take time each week to look ahead at what I want to accomplish, work commitments and family time. I plan my week based on those pieces and try to make it all work. Some weeks are in sync and go perfectly, others… it’s a swing and a miss.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I absolutely love my job! I love meeting new people, building relationships and the fact that each day is completely different from the last. I’m not stuck behind a desk completing tasks all day, I’m at events, luncheons, meetings… wherever the day takes me! After graduating from Texas A&M with a degree in marketing I started my first job as a marketing coordinator at Schlumberger. After a few years there I moved on to another oil & gas company, before switching industries and joining Baker Botts Law Firm. I was in client relations there and had one of the most fun jobs ever! We had a great team that truly worked and played hard. But… then I had a kiddo and needed to make some changes in work / life balance… made a few moves, attempted teaching for 4 years, then decided it was time to get back to adults! Thus, Rockland Insurance; I’ve been here since August 2014.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston and the surrounding area has such a diverse culture lending itself to amazing food and fun! Since I live in the burbs, most of the places we visit aren’t in the city, but when we do “go to town” some of our favorites include Steak 48, B&B Butchers, and Georgia James. Are you noticing a pattern? đŸ™‚ If we hang back in Sugar Land area Jupiter Pizza & Waffles, Brandani’s and Flying Saucer are some of our faves. We LOVE The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo- it’s a must! The concerts, carnival rides, animals, food… oh, the food!!! We also love attending an Astros or Texans game when we can. Oh, and the Craft Breweries… so many choices and all so great!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have been great encouragers and leaders throughout my life; they’re also my biggest cheerleaders! As a child they encouraged me to always do my best, because a) you never know who’s watching you and looking up to you and b)if you give your all, but fail, there’s nothing more you can do… you tried your best and sometimes that isn’t enough. They helped set my moral compass showing me right from wrong, how to treat people and how to live a thankful life. My husband has also been extremely supportive of my career and the balancing act of being a working wife and mom. At Rockland Insurance my bosses have given me free reign to run the department as I see fit and trust me with their business, which really empowers me.
