We had the good fortune of connecting with Aqunita Barnes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aqunita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business came from a desire to do meaningful work that truly helps people. I wanted to build something around what I enjoy, but more importantly, something that filled a gap I kept seeing over and over again. Too many people—gig workers, single parents, families, and first-time filers—feel intimidated, confused, or even fearful when it comes to taxes and finances. I knew it didn’t have to be that way.

Barnes Precision Bookkeeping and Taxes was born out of the belief that everyone deserves to understand their money and feel confident about their financial responsibilities. I don’t just see clients as numbers or forms—I see people trying to do their best, provide for their families, and build something of their own.

For small business owners, I understand how exhausting it can be to juggle everything while trying to grow. By taking bookkeeping and tax stress off their plates, I help them reclaim their time and energy so they can focus on the parts of their business that inspired them to start in the first place.

This business isn’t just about taxes—it’s about empowerment, education, and giving people peace of mind. Knowing that I can make finances feel less overwhelming and more manageable is what continues to drive my passion every day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Barnes Precision Bookkeeping and Taxes was built from a place of service, resilience, and a deep desire to make financial systems feel less intimidating and more empowering. What sets my business apart is that I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Every client has a unique story, and I take the time to understand their circumstances—especially gig workers, single parents, families, and small business owners who often feel overlooked or overwhelmed when it comes to finances and taxes.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. Many come to me feeling anxious or unsure, and leave with clarity, confidence, and peace of mind. I’m excited about the impact we’re making—not just by filing returns or balancing books, but by educating clients so they feel empowered to make informed decisions long after our work together is done.

Getting to where I am today was not easy. Like many entrepreneurs, my journey was filled with learning curves, setbacks, and moments of self-doubt. Building this business required wearing many hats, learning through experience, and staying committed even when progress felt slow. I overcame those challenges by staying focused on my purpose, seeking knowledge, asking for help when needed, and reminding myself why I started in the first place.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that consistency matters more than perfection. You don’t have to have everything figured out to move forward—you just have to be willing to keep going. I’ve also learned the value of community, accountability, and trusting the process, even when the path isn’t clear.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that this business is rooted in integrity, education, and people-first service. Barnes Precision Bookkeeping and Taxes exists to remove fear from finances, create clarity from confusion, and help individuals and business owners reclaim their time and confidence. My story is one of perseverance, purpose, and believing that when you lead with heart and precision, real impact follows.
