We had the good fortune of connecting with Asim Dar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Asim, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One of the most important factors is local support. I would have to say something that I am really proud of is being able to open a business in the same city I grew up over the last 15+ years. I even went to high school right down the road from my restaurant. The city of Porter/New Caney has seen massive growth over the last 5+ years. This city thrives on local business and folks that live around here have shown me nothing but love and support since I opened up. I, not only want to reciprocate that love back to my city, but also be a part of this growing process and becoming a local gem.
What should our readers know about your business?
At L&H Cafe, we specialize in several different items that are prepared fresh in house. Items such as freshly seasoned, in house prepared burgers, hand breaded wings, gyros and more. Coming from a cooking background, I take a lot of pride in my food and recipes. Our scratch made sauces compliment our food items very well! Getting to the level of success that we have right now was not easy. I’ve had to sacrifice so much more than I ever imagined. In order for the business to grow, there were plenty of 15+ hour work days, 7 days a week. It was tough to give up time with my family, my friends, and most importantly time to myself. I was tested mentally and physically numerous times but this to me is almost a rite of passage in a way to reach success. Something that I would want everyone to know is that passion is what drives my business. And I try to display that to each guest that I have an interaction with at my restaurant.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a huge foodie, I would definitely be taking my best friend to numerous spots to eat at! Some of the favorite spots I would go to is Aga’s for amazing Pakistani/Indian food. Chicken Headz for amazing hot chicken sandwiches, Sayad Mediterranean Grill for amazing kabobs and grilled chicken, and lastly my own restaurant, L&H Cafe, because why not!
A typical day would consist of checking out Houston graffiti around the city, grab some good food, and head to the Houston Rockets game!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No one reaches success on their own, the list of folks that have helped me get to where I am is endless. But to name a few, starting with my family and my wife. They always supported from the beginning and for the amount they have sacrificed for me to be where I am, would take a lifetime to pay back. My late father, whom I’ve modeled my whole life around, thank you for spiritually giving me the strength to follow in your footsteps in the entrepreneurial world. Another big shoutout is to the Sheikh family for giving me the opportunity to display my talents to bring something new to the community. And lastly my group of friends that have always stuck by my side and supported me and helped grow this business to where it is today.
