Meet Aydin Mathews | Student of Acting/Dance and Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aydin Mathews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi aydin, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Simply being alive is the joy in itself.
I find that a lot of us tend to get so lost in what we want in life and what we’ve been working towards, we lose sight of the love of what we do in chase of the goal, and for a lot of people that brings major sadness. I am an actor, my line of work can change lives, no matter the scale of what I make, the impact it has is immeasurable. Every day, knowing that I can change someone’s life by simply smiling at them, or giving them a compliment, or just doing my absolute best at the thing I love the most, that is what keeps me happy.
I believe a lot of actors put the weight of their worth in auditions and booking. They lose the love of what they do in search for what they deem to be greatness, yet when they finally book, they’re the most self critical and they can’t enjoy what they worked hard for. Experiencing this, I like to share a special set of words to all my fellow actors and friends. Your worth is not defined by an audition. You are enough. I believe simply being told this can change someone’s life and point of view.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nothing is easy as a performer, and to many, including me, that is what makes it so captivating and fun.
I cannot say that I am any different from many performers. I love what I do, and I feel as if I do it good, but I must grow every day to be better than I was before. My career was built off of the backs of those who pushed me to be better, and those who got me through each struggle I have faced in my life, because there is no way my greatness could be achieved alone. I simply wish to share the love they have given me, back to the world, and I could only hope to be that pedestal to someone else, and push them to be even better and greater than I could ever be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My absolute favorite spot to eat in Texas is in Houston, at this ramen bar called Ramen Tatsu-ya. It is THE MOST incredible food ever, and I strongly believe that food is a language in itself, connecting you to anyone and everyone of the world. After eating, I would absolutely drag them around thrifting, and when we feel finished, take a drive back near my home. Then, as it would most likely be late, I would drag them onto my roof with me, set out a couple towels, bring a speaker and some drinks and snacks, and look at the stars. Something so peaceful in simply laying down and looking at the world, recognizing the beauty we see every day and appreciating it. In the morning, the final hit of their day trip would definitely be Third Gen Coffee on Sawdust! Their Cinnamon Roll Latte is one of the greatest creations humanity has made, and it is an absolute delight to sit in that coffee shop and just chat. Many hours and days have been spent in Third Gen. Running lines, Hanging out, and just relaxing after or before a taxing day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Every person I have met in my life has helped me when the world seemed to have failed me. I cannot thank all the people I’ve met, but the recent struggle I had at my previous university, these 3 boys helped me get through what seemed to be impossible. Where I am would not be the same if it weren’t for Caleb Barton, William Kielwasser, and Cole Becton.
They welcomed me into their home and their lives, and they took care of me, and gave me the gift that is their friendship. I spent tons and tons of hours playing Magic the Gathering with Cole, and late night talks with the 3 boys after a long and hard day of school. Movie nights and Rotisserie chicken lunch time. Runs to 7Brew to get a BOGO drink. Memories like these are absolutely unforgettable. I couldn’t be more grateful to the three of them. I owe them my life and my success.
