We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Thank you for your thought-provoking question about how I define success. As an educator and coach, I firmly believe that true success is measured not just by quantifiable achievements, but by the lasting impact and legacy we leave behind.
For me, success is rooted in the work I do to positively shape the lives of the young people entrusted to my care. With every athlete I have the privilege of coaching, I strive to build not only their physical skills, but also cultivate the mental fortitude and strength of character that will empower them to become future leaders in our community.
I am a strong believer in the power of mission-driven work, and I see my role as an coach as a sacred trust. Each interaction, each lesson, each moment of mentorship is an opportunity to leave an indelible stamp on the hearts and minds of those I serve. This is the true measure of success – the knowledge that I have played a part in shaping the next generation to be compassionate, principled, and driven to make a difference.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m excited to share what sets my gym program apart and the journey that has brought me to where I am today.
What makes my program unique is the true family environment we provide. We don’t just cater to the individual athlete, but to the whole family. This family-focused approach is something I’m incredibly proud of, especially given the adversities I’ve faced as a business owner.
Despite the challenges of rebranding and starting over when the odds were against me, I never gave up on my “why” – my passion for cheer and youth development. Going from only 15 athletes to now serving 43, I’m excited to see what the future holds and the many more families we’ll be able to impact.
Honesty, transparency, and humility have been key to getting my business to where it is today. I’ve learned to view my mistakes as opportunities for growth, which has been crucial in keeping me motivated and pushing forward, even when it hasn’t been easy. Losing everything and starting from scratch with just five tumbling mats and a dream has been a testament to the power of perseverance.
Some of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned along the way include never taking “no” for an answer, and remembering that quality always trumps quantity. While my brand may not be a household name in the cheer world, I’m proud to be a small but mighty program that belongs and makes a difference in our community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Herman Park is an excellent starting point – it’s a vibrant green space with a wonderful community atmosphere near great museums. You can stroll through the beautiful gardens, catch live music or other events a Miller Outdoor Theater. With many restaurants near by you can sample some delicious local cuisine from the various food vendors. It’s a great spot to soak up the energy of the city.
For brunch the next day, I’d suggest checking out Lucille’s or Lost and Found. They have fantastic live music performances at Lucille’s while you dine on their mouth-watering menu. It’s the perfect way to leisurely start your day and enjoy the local culture. Lost and Found has the vibes with a great DJ and great menu options.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
What a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the people who have helped shape our journeys! I’m grateful you’ve invited me to share a shoutout.
My parents, Russell and Rhonda Collins, truly deserve recognition for the incredible impact they’ve had on my life and work. My father’s dedication to coaching youth football, even without a son of his own on the field, demonstrated the profound value of mentorship and community engagement. He showed me firsthand the difference one person can make in the lives of young people in need of guidance and support.
Similarly, my mother’s tireless work in human services at Covenant House Shelter instilled in me a deep appreciation for selfless service. Her example of giving effortlessly to those facing adversity has been a constant inspiration, reminding me of the importance of using our talents and resources to uplift others.
Because of their influence, I’ve approached my own work and community involvement with a missionary-like sense of purpose. I believe we all have a responsibility to pay it forward and contribute to the greater good. My parents’ legacies continue to shape my values and drive me to make a positive difference.
I’m honored to recognize Russell and Rhonda Collins for their invaluable role in my personal and professional journey. They are true pillars of the community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to celebrate them.
