We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Smart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, what do you want your legacy to be?
I’m not necessarily concerned with what the broader collective “people” think. I think in conceptualizing a legacy it’s important to consider what the generations of my family think about me. What inspired me to be an entrepreneur was the consideration of my wife and children and the generations that follow. How will their lives be affected by my life and my work? What type of man will ny sons become and my daughters marry? What generational curses have we been able to stop in mine and ensure it doesn’t happen again in the future? The vision is that I leave a legacy of belief in God and I leave inheritance of not just material gain but high value character, thoughts, deeds, and actions. One that God would be proud of
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my first businesses when I was 13, I sold snacks, cds, tshirts, and I would tutor kids in the Houston area for free as a way to give back. One of things I dreamed of when I wrote down my goals in my 9th grade time capsule was to be a business owner to take of my family. Since that time I’ve interned, worked for, volunteered, run for office, worked in government, private sector, the point is that when God gives you a vision for your life you have to first write it down and make it plain. Over time, He will grant you the experiences and tools you need to be able to make that vision for your life a reality. Nothing worth having is easy and with God all things are possible. I’ve learned that truth and hard work go a long way. Treating people how you want to be treated in all aspects of business even if it’s difficult is essential to success and growth. Smartscaping is a growing organization that touches a couple of industries and has the potential to be even greater than we are.
