We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Richards Chassidy Thompson-Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carla Richards, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

We are educators, so we are accustomed to being flexible and balancing 100 tasks at a time. We put on our “superhero” capes and do everything in our power to get things done. However, there are times when we simply have to say No! To have balance, we have to set boundaries and be intentional with our time. Being small business owners has taught us not to compromise our boundaries. We enjoy making our clients happy, but we can’t do it at the expense of our mental and family health. As long as we are healthy, we will have the opportunity to make money, but we can’t get back the time and the important moments with our family and friends. Balance is necessary for every aspect of life. Building a business takes time and sacrifices, but we can’t lose focus on what matters the most. That is, loving our family and friends, making memories, impacting lives, and living life to the fullest!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

What sets us apart from others is our servant’s hearts. We want to see people happy and healthy. We do that by supporting students in the classroom and by providing beautiful balloons and event designs for our client’s events.
Being lifelong learners has gotten us to where we are today. We’re always learning something new to enhance our skills.

Everything we do requires hard work, determination, and dedication. Yet, we overcome our challenges by seeking answers and support and not giving up.

We’ve learned not to allow fear to hold us back but also to take it one day and one event at a time.

We are excited about the continued growth and success of Simply Refined Event Designs!

A lesson that we’ve learned along the way is to set boundaries and not to be afraid to ask for help.

We want the world to know that we are just two friends that decided to take a leap of faith and pursue our passion for event design. We are dedicated to our craft and will always give 100%. We are simply thankful for the opportunity to do something we love!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to dedicate our shoutout to Mrs. Priscilla Roberts, “The Balloon Diva.”
