We had the good fortune of connecting with Casse Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casse, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe risk define us. You can look around at people you consider winners and you’ll also see behind the wins are many risks. I think about risk as the ability to be uncomfortable when the results are unknown. People who remain comfortable have more chances of living mediocre. People who take risk have better chances of making changes and accomplishing things that my seem Impossible to the next person. People who take risk either learn from them or win. Either way it’s a step in the right direction.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Formal Set is my baby! A luxury streetwear brand derived from the idea that streetwear should be considered just as formal and accepted as other forms of clothing. Seeing dress codes at certain establishments always bothered me. Or seeing people judged because of the type of clothing they choose always gave me fire to create garments that help people express themselves.

My brand gives our audience luxury high end like garments at a fair price point. Mixing luxury and streetwear has been my focus. More importantly, I want my brand to solve a problem for our supporters. We make custom measurements that push the limits and give our audience garments that stand out and last longer than one season. We pride ourselves in producing special occasion wear. Garments that our customers will choose to wear during their finest moments.

Getting here wasn’t easy. A lot of nights of second guessing my ideas and vision. You just have to get to the point where you are serious about your craft, make a plan and execute. I know a lot of people looking for this magic advice but it’s really as simple as wanting something and doing whatever it takes to achieve it. GOD FORREAL!

When I think about what I want my brand to be known for and what type of message I want to leave on the world is perseverance. Life is literally a marathon and the real winners just never quit and keep finding a way to multiple their blessings.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
BIG DALLAS!

An amazing place for sure. Never nothing to do here. I love a good dinner night, or day party/lounge vibe! Not too much, gotta make sure your fit stay right. Lol.

As I type this I’m currently at one of my favorite Dallas spots to eat, Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill. Just like my brand you get premium food at a medium price point. Never compromising quality.

If we going to go out and enjoy some vibes there’s no way we don’t hit The Garden, or Xclusive Saturdaze at Rokwood.

Gotta check out all the fashion spots, Heights District, Daily DTX, Traffic, and if we talking designer gotta hit Galleria/NorthPark mall.

My favorite bar would be Parliament.

We all know how hot Texas is so for me, beating the heat with a good house set is always my first choice.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I think about what it took to get me to this space in my design/entrepreneurship career I can’t even begin to tell the story without first thanking God. So many times I would look in the mirror and not recognize myself. All my life I played ball and my only plan was to go pro. I never even thought about who I would be without it. When life throw so many curveballs and it turns out ball wouldn’t be the lifelong career for me I had to go to a dark place to find myself. God pulled me out of that. At the other end of that Tim Camper and Brandon Crenshaw were God sent. I was desperately looking for ways to express my creativity. I was always known for fly threads since 9th grade so fashion was always my second love. I just didn’t know how it would shape my future. Never knew it would monetize for me. I started my brand with garments sewed by me. Tim Camper taught me how to sew and everything else I learned from YouTube anniversary. After I launched Formal Set, I quickly gained a growing audience which allowed me to connect with now Nike/Jordan designer, Brandon Crenshaw. I knew I wanted to eventually stop sewing and get into mass production and Brandon held my hand through that entire process. I owe so much gratitude to him. Brandon really saw something in me that nobody else saw. All the answers I searched and searched for after he saw how serious I was about my craft he single handily showed me the ropes.

There’s the business side and there’s also the personal side. When it comes to my mental I gotta thank my wife for listening to all my ideas and supporting my vision. She seen me lose myself after ball and she always believed in me no matter what I was pursuing. It was times I couldn’t sleep at night because I couldn’t look in the mirror and it was her shoulder I cried on. She never ever let me drop my head. Owe her all her flowers for dealing with a lost woman and nurturing me back to me.
