We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantel Channell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chantel, please tell us more about your business.
I’m a salon owner, product innovator, and salon suites business coach. In my ten years of experience as a hairstylist, I’ve seen the lack of knowledge in what it takes to become a successful business owner within the beauty industry. I’ve come to realize that the result of not having this foundation for a business leads many stylists to become underpaid, stressed out, and not having a work-life balance.
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
I’m most proud and excited about my Suite Stylist Coaching Business, giving them business strategies to making a six-figure salary and a stress-free life.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise?
It’s so funny that you asked this question before I became a hairstylist. I was in college but realized that it wasn’t for me so I dropped out. I started to think about what’s next and loved styling hair, but then I began to question myself because I felt that the industry was too saturated. I took a leap of faith and started to go to hair school. Soon I realized that I was good at cutting and coloring hair. I could literally think of things and create them without using books or being taught.
Was it easy?
It wasn’t easy because, during this time, I was 19 years old, working a graveyard shift and I had already lost both of my parents, but God had made a way for my rent to only be $150. I had no transportation and I was catching rides to and from work. I can’t say it was easy, but it was a press but I kept my vision before me and persevered.
If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
It really was all God. I was journaling daily my victories, my losses, and my vision. I used God’s word to comfort me, by applying His word to the things I was facing during that time, and I was constantly before Him in prayer.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Not allowing my current circumstances to shape my future. I know I keep talking about God, but honestly, as I’m writing this I’m in tears because it’s reminding me how he was there for me during this time and I know I wouldn’t have made it without him. Also, I didn’t compare myself with other people because the things that God ordained for me to go through, became my wisdom and were the things I needed to overcome in my life to fulfill my purpose.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Because of my mentors, experiences, and the things that I have learned it’s created a passion in me to teach and inspire others within the beauty industry to WIN! That’s why I’ve created Salon Suite Society, a coaching community for stylists transitioning from cosmetology school into salons, from commission-based & booth rental salon into suites. Teaching them all things business, how to book & retain clients, proper consultations, retailing products, creating 5-star client experiences, and how to earn $10k a month while living a stress-free life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
#1 God Himself #2 My Father in The Gospel Bishop Matthew King & Refuge Temple Ministries – Teaching me the standards of Christ giving me vision beyond what I can see! -Being my business coach #3 My Business Mentors -Alicia Wells- My first encounter into being an Assistant learning the values of customer service. – Sylvia Flanagan- Gave me my 1st and only booth rental experience and told me I would be great one day. Though I thought she was hard on me. She taught me everything from how to book clients, to carry myself like a business owner/professional stylist, also how having the holy spirit, living for God is the foundation of business and serving my clients like the queens they are! -Ebony Carter- Taught me how to have confidence in the beauty industry, and creating custom colors on African Americans don’t have to be hard!
