We had the good fortune of connecting with Chasta Winslow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chasta Winslow, what do you attribute your success to?
My parents provided a spiritual foundation within our home, and both enjoy serving their community. If you were to meet my parents, you would see the essence of me-lovers of Christ with big hearts and always busy. My heart has always been of servitude. Joy comes from being able to provide a service or fulfill a need that brings reprieve or hope to others through intentional acts of selflessness. I enjoy helping others solve problems and seek solutions. So much so that I founded my nonprofit Kudos Youth & Community Enrichment Program (KYCEP). I wanted to take what I did daily and increase the means and method in order to reach more individuals. Kudos works within communities as well as partners with local school campuses to create programs for their youth. Your Power Consulting, LLC (YPC) serves as an umbrella for me to take what I enjoy and provide services to individuals and businesses through monetizing my skills in hopes of becoming a full-time business owner.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Let me start by saying that entrepreneurship has been extremely challenging. I’ve come across many “No’s”, which hit a little different when you are funding your own projects, but that also makes hearing “Yes” that much sweeter. I found myself seeking mentorship, yet unable to find someone willing to truly take me under their wing and show me the ropes. I wish that I had someone to bounce ideas around with and seek advice from who have already successfully achieved where I am trying to go. However, I did not allow that to stop me from pursuing my dreams and going after my vision.
Kudos Youth & Community Enrichment Program (KYCEP) founded in 2016. Like most teachers, I wear many hats: mother, auntie, financial advisor, banker, counselor, etc. Each month I take a portion of my check to supply food, clothes, or opportunities for my students. I did it willingly because my heart is pleased when I see their smiles or exhales of relief, however, I wanted to do it on a larger scale. Kudos spearheaded a project where we partnered with local businesses and sponsors to provide disaster relief to local citizens, providing food and care packages. We also hosted Barber’s Day Out in 2019, where eight local barbers provide free haircuts to 75 young men. Each youth was also supplied with free food, snack packs, games and raffles as many prepared for prom and others regained their confidence.
Your Power Consulting, LLC is the umbrella for all things Chasta Winslow: wedding officiant, life coach, business consultant and custom gift curator. YPC seeks to help others cultivate their visions and produce a tangible product. Many have the idea but are unable to translate it well on paper or successfully produce their ideas into a visual concept. I help with creating personalized gifts, customizing wedding ceremonies and vow renewals, basic business plans, logos, along with other branding and business consulting needs.
What I have discovered is that you cannot wait on someone else to move on your behalf-you will delay the process or lose your window of opportunity. A lot of what I have learned and accomplished comes from my own research, funding, tears, trial and error. Nevertheless, my family, close friends and individuals met through networking have all dropped some jewels on me throughout the years. Ultimately, I desire to put my family in a better position to leave something meaningful and tangible to the generations that follow.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Good food and great conversation is a good time in my book. We would check out some good eateries like The Breakfast Klub, Ester’s or The Greasy Spoon. We can eat, drink and talk about everything under the sun…not to mention, share some great business or generational wealth tips.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I truly appreciate the love and support from my family, friends and community…your positive energy and kind words keep me going.
