We had the good fortune of connecting with Claremont Heir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Claremont, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
We have practice weekly on Sunday nights which sounds bad initially, but it is a motivator, for me, to not save my work until Sunday night. Making time for music is important to us, and knowing that there are four other people relying on you helps motivate you to not let the others down.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are just five teens who have the common interest of loving to play instruments. We have been working towards adding more original songs to our setlist, and we are excited to share them with the world. Listening to a song that was worked on collaboratively with five different minds is an exciting process.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Fluff Bake Bar out in the heights, as that is the absolute best bakery in Houston. Then, we would head over to my favorite record shop, Cactus Records. I bought my first record, Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers, at Cactus and visit it far too often then my bank account would like. I mean you can’t skip the Children’s Museum – it never gets old. For food, I can’t even pin point a place. So much good food. Tex-mex would be a for sure. Aside from that, Common Bond is my favorite spot in Houston.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Mr. Parrish. The band started out as a jam session between me, Lily, the drummer, and Bo, the guitarist. Had it not been through Jazz Band and our band director, I doubt Bo and I would have been friends. Mr. Parrish retired this year from his position as band director at our school, and we miss him dearly. Thank you Mr. P!
