We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristina Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristina, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Houston, TX. My upbringing and cultural background played a dramatic impact on the inspiration of my business. Being black in America, the odds are already placed against you and you have to work two times harder just to be considered equal. Being the youngest of four, I had the opportunity and privilege to watch my older siblings thrive and achieve in their endeavors by means of hard work and dedication. In a way, I think it was in my blood due to my father being an entrepreneur and continually motivating me to push towards my dreams of creating a business, despite the obstacles I would face. I was told several times i would not be successful running a business, that i couldn’t write or even publish a book that others would read; however I own and run my business successfully and i am a publish author. Furthermore, I was taught to be better than the rest and some individuals might not notice my value but, as long as I continued to fight and never give up, I could achieve my dreams. It didn’t matter to me what others thought of me as long as I believed in myself, I would make it. Staying strong to who I am and relying on God has helped me to become who I am today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to Health and Fitness, everyone feels that they know the industry. Being a Health and Wellness Coach I try to speak to my clientele in a way they can understand. Helping them understand I am just like them and reaching goals is hard but I have their back! What sets me apart from the next individual is this is my life. Being healthy is a lifestyle and it takes years in order for you to be consistent with the way that you eat, the way that you live and how you work out. I not only teach living a healthy lifestyle but I also practice it daily. One of the biggest things that I am most proud of is my published book entitled The Edible Cure, it features every fruit, vegetable, herb and vitamin A through Z that can heal your body naturally. The purpose behind me writing the book was to educate minorities and under privileged individuals that we can be healthy and live a healthy lifestyle without having to spend a lot of money, without having insurance or even being on prescription drugs. You can heal your body naturally through food that you find at your local local grocery stores. We just have to be educated and have the knowledge on what those foods are. One of the lessons I’ve learned through the few years I have been in business is that consistency is key and some times you will have slower months, so making sure you always have a “cushion” is vital. I want the world to know Granted Wellness is more than a nutrition or fitness company it is a wellness brand and I want to teach all how to heal themselves in all aspects; those include mentally, physically and emotionally in order to live the best way they can.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend came to visit I would definitely take them to eat at Taste Bar, the chicken and waffles are the best!! The atmosphere is great and positive vibes constantly flow. Furthermore we would go biking by means of BCycle through the city and stop at White Oak Bayou and view the bat bridge along with the glowing statues along Allen Parkway. For sure when we go out at night we are stopping by Grooves for happy hour and then The Address. Once we danced the night away, I would take her to Velvet taco to have a nice late night bite before we went home. Houston is PACKED! with hidden gems and great places to eat, relax and have a great time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to recognize my fiancé Christopher Smoot Jr. he has been my rock through the ups and downs. The late nights and early mornings, the “struggle” months when business isn’t that great and always told me to keep pushing and to never give up. Also, my parents have supported me in that they never doubted my desires or made me feel that I wasn’t worthy of having success. Regardless of what I wanted to do, I had their backing. Some of my inspiration for my business has come from them as well because they helped me realize everyone knows the “basics” of how to live healthy, but how do you make it enjoyable to where everyone wants to attain it? I thought long and hard about that question they asked me years ago and now I’ve accomplished not only making living a healthy lifestyle enjoyable and attainable but I have individuals who long for a change and look forward to it. Ultimately, Jehovah God has blessed me and I continue to put him first and everything else falls into place.
