Meet Color Rebels | Muralists/Artists

We had the good fortune of connecting with Color Rebels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Color Rebels, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our thought process behind starting our own business began with a true passion and appreciation for art and our community. As Art Educators we aspire to engage our students into the arts. As Muralist, our goal was the same; to create art within our community that will motivate others and create a captivating space. We have a true appreciation for what we do so starting a muraling business felt second nature.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The Color Rebels stand out from others because we are proactive visionaries. Our main objective is to take a client’s idea and generate a collaborative masterpiece that displays a fusion of their ideas and our talent. We understand that having a custom visual/aesthetic is now very important to small businesses because these elements can help add to their success. We take pride in that our work has already proven to be a great asset to a small business’ continued success. Our business started because we worked on a mural for our school one day and realized how much we loved the process of creating and painting on a large scale. This opportunity helped us feel confident in continuing to paint murals. Subsequently, we have been trusted by family, friends and complete strangers to paint murals in their businesses and personal spaces. The process has been easy, but COVID-19 and the pandemic shut downs definitely stalled us a little. We are ready to get back out there and put more mural projects under our belt. Some lessons we have been able to take away are more on the business management side. We have learned how to manage our time more efficiently. We learn how to work together better in each project. We have also been able to see what part of the projects each of us is better at doing. When the name Color Rebels is mentioned, we want people to think: creativity and reliability. We want people to know that they will have the best possible outcome in our murals. We also want them to know they can rely on us to get the job done.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in one of the greatest melting pots in the world: Houston, Texas. There is so much variety in food, fun and nightlife in this city. If a friend was coming to visit, one of the first places I would take them to is The Galleria Mall. In this Houston heat, we like to spend time indoors during the summer, and The Galleria has lots to offer from food to fashion to fun. They also have a large indoor skating rink. Another place to stop would be Discovery Green Park in Downtown, Houston. This park offers green space, picnic areas, kayaking, eateries, and views of our famous arenas like the Toyota center, home of the Houston Rockets and Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros. The Montrose District is a great place to spend a day just walking and sight seeing some of the beautiful art installations in the area. The east downtown area houses a graffiti park that makes an awesome backdrop to an Instagram photoshoot.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hello! We are Nelly Casper, Fernando Cervantes, and Vivian Soto. Together, we have formed a mural painting company, and we are known as the Color Rebels. We met in college while studying to be art educators, and although our differences in character are apparent, our common bond lies in creating art that can make a difference. For more than ten years, we have continued to survive this life with the strong friendship we created. We dare say we are more like family, at this point. While we raise a glass to each other, we also want to shout out our parents and grandparents. We have a strong work ethic that comes from our Mexican culture. Our immigrant parents engrained the importance of working for what you want since our childhood. As artists and educators we continue to work with these values and hope to instill this ethic into our own children, students and even clients.
