We had the good fortune of connecting with Corisandra Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corisandra, what do you want people to remember about you?
When I transcend from this earth I want there to be a footprint left. A footprint that will forever leave the earth and future generations changed for the better.
With one song at a time, one bar at a time… I want my legacy to be love and confidence to pursue you’re wildest dreams.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art comes from a very deep and passionate place. I grew up singing in my church but I always had love for reciting poems and written words. I excelled in literature in school but I never knew I would take the skills I learned growing up and turn it into a form of art that can express me completely. I was about 18 yrs old when the idea of rapping as a serious artist was planted in my head. I had just let everyone know I was expecting a baby with a rap cover I did to J.Coles “Wet Dreams”. The feedback I got was incredible. I would a always ask myself what my purpose was, or how can I change the world when I grow up. I believe I have found my purpose or calling on this planet. It is to share my love for words and music with other beings. To transfer this amazing energy that I was blessed with onto others. With this task does come great responsibility. It has been difficult trying to knock down the stigmas of female rap. Many think female rappers should sound a certain way, or look a certain way, but I am here to break the barriers of conformity. I do not fit in any kind of box. I am completely different from the the rest and I pride myself highly on that. I bring passion, resilience, ambition, confidence, and integrity to anything I do and being an artist is no different. I took a small break to have my baby during the pandemic so It has not been easy to gain the traction I had previously to that. But I am very happy to say that I have been working double time to make up for lost time and I am seeing the fruits of my labor, and for that I am so thankful and blessed. This is not a hobby or pass time for me. When I decide to do something I do it to the fullest extent! So best believe IAmLopez is coming for all her flowers. My art and love will reach the whole world before I must transcend!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Northside baby from Houston, but I love my whole city and all it has to offer. As an artist I have noticed the night life in Houston has changed a lot.
There is always something to do Downtown. Once you’re done turning up just drive down to the South East and get some of the best tacos I have ever tasted. If not, the next day head over to the northside to the “Tia Pancha” flea market and eat all the best Mexican snacks till your heart is content! I will say Houston has got the FOOD! All kinds and everywhere! It is a huge melting pot so there is literally all kinds of cultures and foods to choose from. I’m a foodie if you can’t tell. Well besides the food there are so many different things you can do when in Houston. We have parks almost everywhere, museums, shopping centers, gyms, arcades… i mean if you’re looking we got it! That it one thing i love about my city! Oh but the weather is really weird so make sure you leave the house with an umbrella, rain boots, a coat, and a change of clothes because you never know!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been and always will be my biggest support system. Family has always been a huge focal point in my life. Literally most of what I do revolves around them, for the betterment of their lives. I would not be as involved or as active in the music business if i didn’t have a family like mine. I don’t have a team per say or management of any kind so my family and I do it ALL when it comes to IAmLopez. I do rely on my family for many parts of Lopez but I do have to give a big shout out to some of the fellow artist and producers I have met and now call friends. Lossi, Affect, and Hippie Lo just to name a few definitely help me out in so many ways. They keep me inspired and we have made genuine connections I feel will last a lifetime!
