We had the good fortune of connecting with Dante Phantom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dante, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about the fashion industry that outsiders are definitely not aware of is I made thee exposed pleat mainstream. Also known as, The Phantom Pleat. My signature embedded into a majority of my work since 2017.
Within the past two years I’ve seen a growing number of designs from major designers, boutiques, and manufacturers. I innovated this idea in the room I was renting Harlem NYC, 2017. Since then it’s only been me. Now a full blown Ready-To-Wear collection titled “Mount Olympus”; the phantom pleat and phantom phabric a main feature.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What instantly sets Phantom apart is our #PhantomPleat embossed in a majority of my pieces. The Phantom Pleat; is an actually an exposed pleat/dart. I started to sow into my creations from 2017 on.
In 2018 I debuted my 3rd collection; but would be my first Ready-To-Wear collection, Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus is a majority of acrylic knit pieces; highlighting our Phantom Pleats in every piece.
Within this past year and half I have seen and outstanding number of boutiques, manufacturers, and brands who have definitely been inspired by my lil ol collection. While it’s awesome to see that I’ve brought a certain sowing technique mainstream; I feel a type of way because I haven’t been recognized for my contributions.
I got to where iam now by never loosing sight of what has been important to me. The main lesson I’ve learned is that their is only one you; focus on the path that was created for your personal destiny.
What I want the world to know is that I’am DANTE PHANTOM; I’m here to stay and become a household name like Balenciaga, LV, etc.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take a ride down Westheimer Rd being that I’m from New York and let them know Westheimer reminds me of Broadway St. Definitely visit City Centre, Montrose, The Galleria, Downtown to sight see and get to know houston culture. For me one of the most exciting things to check out is all the Botanicas/Spiritual shops here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To God/Olodumare. My faith in God has carried me here. My belief in my dreams and following them through. I shout-out Source, the Creator. 🤞🏽
