We had the good fortune of connecting with Dean Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dean, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Making a conscious decision to commit to the. I think that was most critical decision any business owner can make because its easy to get discouraged and retreat.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I graduated with a degree in Accounting and worked for a Public Accounting firm. Then I transitioned into Oil and Gas for about 14 years. As the oil market began crash started to push my photography and videography full time. I have worked with brands such as Violate the Dresscode, Women’s best, Gymshark, Emperors Cut, HEB, Black Enterprise Magazine etc. I am also n official photographer for World Beauty Fashion and Fitness Entertainment. I think the biggest challenge was establishing a style that is unique within my genre of photography. I also struggled to find ways to streamline my process so that not only was my work quality but it had fast turnaround. The other challenge was making a point to be flexible in my edits. I always frowned upon business owners who refused to customize services. Now having said that, i realize that you cant do what everyone wants but at the same time being flexible in my style opened doors to service more clients. The second most valuable lesson I had to learn that i am not everyone’s photographer. Understanding what my specialty was versus what I can shoot and film very well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots are 13 Celsius wine bar that’s where i do my editing when I’m not home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really owe everything to God. That is cause of my success. My Mother & Father have been inspirational in my development. The rest was internal, I had to drive myself to get the things that i knew i could obtain because no one else can want it more than i do. I understood that concept.
