We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Hamilton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denise, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that my professional experience and being an entrepreneur has taught me is don’t believe everything you think. It’s critical that you have the courage to challenge your assumptions and that you’re willing to reimagine new ways of looking at things and doing things.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a black woman in the Southwest over 40 when I started this, I’m not the typical Founder, but I did it anyway. I learned to not let other people tell me what I can and cannot do. It’s hard for minority and women founders to get funding and support, but I believe in taking each day at a time, staying true to your goals and serving your audience. If you stick with your audience, they’ll stick with you. We’re proud of the breakthroughs we’ve helped women find in our events and retreats, like the one we did in Bali last year. We are so honored to work with so many corporations through consulting, keynotes and training to create change and inclusion around race and gender. It’s also been important to me to have a dynamic group of supporters that have encouraged me and kept me going. When you start a business to solve a problem as big as inequality, it takes a lot of hands to make it happen. So building important relationships, partnerships and coalitions has been a key ingredient in the growth of my business. It still brings a tear to my eye when I meet a woman who has been going through a professional struggle and she tells me that WatchHerWork videos helped her through that journey. I never want to lose sight of the mission and the people. It’s amazing to be able to make money while making change.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Food: Little Papasito’s Fufu Cafe in Chinatown Tres Leches at Churrascos Truth Barbecue Cool Runnings for Jamaican food Breakfast at Goode Company Taqueria Coltivare Local Foods Activities: (many not available due to Covid) Bingo in the Heights Picnics in Hermann Park Foot rubs in Chinatown Top Golf Drive-In movies Weekend Getaways to Galveston

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
WatchHerWork wouldn’t be possible without my #1 teammate (and daughter) Javan Hamilton. While I bring the thought leadership, she brings the technical expertise and together we make magic.
