We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Desiree, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My first thought was, can I do this on my own? It was tough starting out I had a lot of negative thoughts and it was risky but I’m glad I did it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets Kiss my Curls apart from other hair care brands is the authenticity. My brand is made to make women and men feel beautiful in a natural state. We encourage women and men of all color to come together as one community to support and love one another as they are. I got to where I am today from the push of my support system and by the Grace of God. It was not easy, one thing I’ve learned being an Entrepreneur is you have to take risks. You never know what your outcome will be unless you try. I want the world to know about my products and why I created them. It took me years to find a product that works for my hair causing a decrease in my confidence levels. I got tired of it and created a product that works & restores my confidence. I now have more confidence than ever just by my curl transformation from using my own products.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my best friends is from the East coast so she’s never ventured out to South Texas. I’d definitely take her to the best food spots right in the heart of Houston or for a little thrifting on Montrose. We’d definitely have to hit up the Galleria cause we both love to shop til we drop. I’d show her how poppin Houston’s night life gets on the weekends then we’d end it off with Brunch at The Breakfast Klub or Lost in Found.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Big shout out to my mom for being my first customer. Thanks to my close friends Tianna & Alezaii for encouraging me to push forward no matter the odds. Shout out to my Aunt Brittany & my cousins for supporting and being my Guinea pigs. Biggest Thanks to my man whom pushes me every day. The support, love & encouragement dosent go unnoticed. I have the best support system and I think it’s so important to have one in anything you do. It means the world to me!
