Meet Destany Ramirez | Salon Owner & Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Destany Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Destany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly, starting my own business was always the end goal. Ever since I became a hairstylist, I knew I eventually wanted to go out on my own—I just had to wait for the right time. After having my daughter in 2022, that vision started to feel more urgent and felt closer than ever. When she turned about 8 months old, I felt ready to take that leap into business ownership.
I’ve been doing hair since 2016, and this work truly is what I’m meant to do. I have always known I wanted to be a hairstylist since I was in middle school. I live and breathe my craft and I am so proud of what has come of my little salon. Going solo wasn’t just about working for myself, It was also about creating the kind of experience I’ve always imagined for my clients, and laying the groundwork for what I hope will someday be a full salon with a team of like minded, passionate stylists.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting to where I am today definitely hasn’t been easy. There have been a lot of learning moments… especially in the beginning when I was trying to figure out how to run a business while also always trying to give my clients the best possible experience. It took a lot of trial and error to find systems that actually work, to set boundaries, and to put solid and fair policies in place that protect my business and my time. But every challenge has helped me grow—whether that’s learning more about myself, how I want to show up in my business, or how I can better serve the people who sit in my chair.
What I think really sets me apart is the personal attention I give every single client. I don’t double book because I believe everyone deserves that one on one time. These are real relationships I’m building, and I want my clients to feel safe, relaxed, and taken care of when they’re with me. Whether they want to chat, vent, or just sit quietly and unwind, I want them to feel like this is their time, not just to get their hair done, but to take a breath and be themselves completely.
At the end of the day, I care deeply about what I do and not just the end result, but how people feel during the process. That’s always been my “why,” and it’s what keeps me excited to keep growing. I am always so excited to be brainstorming what is going to come next.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city are in the Museum District or Montrose area in Houston. I would absolutely be taking my best friend to do all of the fun things like thrifting, going to local music shows, exploring the museums, the zoo and parks!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I reflect on where I am today, I know without a doubt that I didn’t get here alone. There are a few people whose love, support, and belief in me truly carried me through, especially during the moments when I questioned myself.
First, my parents. Their support during hair school was nothing short of amazing. I was juggling full time classes with barely any income, and they stepped in without hesitation. It wasn’t just financial help, it was also the constant reminder that they believed in me and wanted to see me succeed. That kind of unwavering support is something I’ll always carry with me.
To my clients, you are the heart of my business. Your loyalty, encouragement, and trust have allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined. Every appointment, every referral, every kind word, it all matters more than you probably realize. Without you, I wouldn’t have the space to do what I love every day. I’m endlessly grateful for your support.
And above all, my partner. He has been my biggest source of strength. When I was scared to take the leap into running my own business, he was the one who looked at me and said, ‘You’re ready.’ His belief in me never wavered, even when mine did. Watching him step up for our family, support my dreams, and cheer me on through every high and low, that’s something I’ll never take for granted. I truly couldn’t have done this without him.
Every step of this journey has been shaped by the people who showed up for me, and I’ll never stop being thankful for that.
