We had the good fortune of connecting with Detrick Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Detrick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially, I didn’t set out to start my own business or create my own brand, it just happened over time. I have always had a passion for coaching and competitive sports, and I came across a gentleman that expanded the coaching door for me. Before getting my own brand and obtaining a franchise, I assisted for four years alongside a team that visited our school. From there, I pretty much just ran with it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re semi-pro basketball team, which also owns a franchise of Hoop it Up. We compete in various leagues in Houston, as well as provide 3 on 3 basketball tournaments for ages 8 and up. What I feel set aside from others in the industry is that I treat the people that I work alongside or coach like family. It’s always about family and respect within our organization. The field of coaching as a whole is desperately in need of a deeper incorporation of the latest science into its practice, and we strive to separate ourselves from others in this way. Coaching is both an art and a science, and we take this seriously in our work with clients and athletes in order to provide the highest quality services possible. Unfortunately, this isn’t necessarily “flashy” at times and doesn’t draw immediate attention to our brand, but over time as clients and athletes see results and successes, we are confident this will open us up to continual growth and clientele loyalty. If there is anything I have learned and continue to learn along this journey, it is that staying true to our beliefs and values is imperative as a business.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my family for being supportive in everything that I do.
