We had the good fortune of connecting with Devante Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devante, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The hardest decision I’ve ever had to make was either be a artist or run a label
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been making music for years. It wasn’t til I locked in with JC when we decided to run a label. What pays the the bills and gets the music out on my end is this good ol trucker life. I’m away from home most days. I have a mobile studio setup inside my rig. I either send verses to my artist or I record myself. I’m most proud of the progress when it came to mixing and mastering. It wasn’t easy at all. I sat hours looking at the screen full of colors until it all made sense. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is not everyone is driven like you. More people want to see you fail rather than succeed. People will use you for personal gain and forget about you on their way to the top. I’m humble so I smile and wave. What the world should know about me and our brand is that we put the artist before us. We invest heavily in ourselves because if we won’t then no one else will.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week in Houston? First, I will make sure the OMG FOOD FEST is going on. Nothing but good eats. When it come to drinks? I’m a huge fan of bombshells. The places we would visit is more like a hunt for all the murals around Houston. Contemporary arts museum would be a visit. The Address would be our party scene. Galveston beach would be our relaxation.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
JC. The Co-Owner of The Committee. Our children pushes us to be better than our normal selves. Which pushes us to push them to be better than us.
