We had the good fortune of connecting with Dwayne Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dwayne, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a career in photography to show people another perspective on how you can view art. I’ve always had an artistic eye for viewing things in a way that others don’t. Instead of taking a simpler approach I feel going in-depth with the quality of the art is beneficial in capturing the essence of the subject. My goal is to utilize my vision to inspire people that you can accomplish goals with passion, commitment, desire, and ambition.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is my natural born talent, passion, and education. To be able to reach a certain standard of quality I believe in gaining knowledge to enhance the natural beauty of my art. I enjoy capturing raw moments between my subject and the environment. I also learned that having the proper equipment isn’t always essential to perform the task. The outcome of your work comes from the passion, desire, commitment, and dedication you put into your craft.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My suggestions are Texas Roadhouse, BJ’s Brewhouse, Los Tios, Pappadeaux, and Big Horn for restaurants. A few great popular locations to visit would be the Museum District, Discovery Green, The Graffiti Wall, and McGovern Centennial Gardens.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my mom, dad, Whitney, Ericka, Sara, and Papa Fred for supporting me throughout my journey as a photographer. Without their help, I wouldn’t be in the position that I’m in with my photography business. I’m very grateful and thankful to have them apart of my life. I wish them much love, positivity, and gratitude.
