We had the good fortune of connecting with Ezra Black and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ezra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Music is so engrained in my being that I didn’t really see another choice. I’ve definitely built other interest/hobbies but they always lead back to some aspect of creating music.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve entered a point in my creative career where I just want to create what pops into my mind. From a marketing aspect, I probably need to file and sort everything into a neat package haha ( hmu if you are a manager 🙂 ) but I honestly don’t want to be known for one type of musical genre or artistic expression. At the end of the day, I want to impress myself and hope that others will appreciate the music for what it is. With that being said, every aspect has been a good problem. Music can be an ungrateful lover…you put everything into it and sometimes it just doesn’t get the response you hoped for – and that’s ok. What makes me most proud is that I imagine these sounds in my head and take the time to orchestrate them into a complete song. After that, they belong to the listener and the moment they interact with my music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Live Music: 1. Satellite 2. Wonky Power 3. Axelrad 4. White Oak 5. Rudyard’s 6. Red Dwarf Coffee: 1. Campesino 2. Red Dwarf Food: 1. Nancy’s Hustle 2. Pinkerton’s BBQ 3. Eunice 4. Common Bond (Pistachio Croissant is 100% delicious) Drinks: 1. Lei Low 2. Little Danny’s Speedo 3. Axelrad 4. Rudyard’s 5. B.L.T 6. Poison Girl 7. Grand Prize Art: 1. Museum District – all of it All in all, Houston has a lot to offer and I’d suggest speaking with locals at any of those places to see what they suggest. (pro-tip: always ask bartenders/service industry where they hang out….and tip them)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Houston’s music/creative scene for their openness and support.
